RESURGENCE

HE SPEAKS The scene opens in a hastily decorated office at the back of some sports centre. A man sits in a chair behind a desk, his face hidden behind a hockey mask looking like some Jason Voorhees cast off. He buttons the jacket of his light tan suit and begins to speak, quietly but confidently. Man: Good Evening, and welcome to this most momentous of evenings when we will crown the very first Icon Promotions World Heavyweight Champion. Allow me to introduce myself…I am the Icon, the owner of this franchise, and the man redefining the way inter-fed companies are run. You won’t see any of the bullshit bias you see so blatantly in other projects of this kind, talent will be rewarded, not held back, and we will find out exactly who the best of the best are within our group of companies, a group consisting of the best five wrestling organizations in the World. Now, as most of you are aware, these two matches were scheduled to be included on the ULW’s War of the Worlds PPV, but due to circumstances beyond our, and the ULW’s control and various comments made, we find ourselves here, with five hundred people in attendance, five hundred people who are hand to see history made…right here, right now. Tonight, we begin the run up to the very first Icon PPV, Resurgence which will take place in February 2007, live from Memphis, Tennessee. On that night you will see whoever wins the World Title tonight in their very first title defence, on top of that you will also see the Icon Tag Titles decided as well as several matches yet to be decided, but guaranteed to be non-stop action. He takes a moment, before continuing. Icon: But, all that is in the future, I need to deal with tonight. And with that in mind I want to make something perfectly clear. I am sick of interference ruining perfectly good match so with that in mind I am BANNING anyone not involved tonight from ringside. Anyone who has the audacity to interfere will be dealt with, swiftly and effectively. I know all about the ULW’s problems with SCW and I will be keeping a close eye on proceedings from my vantage point at the announce table. Now, with that said, good luck to all concerned and I look forward to seeing how this event pans out. A DANGEROUS GAME? The scene cuts backstage where Icon interview Stephanie Louise is stood with SCW competitor Jay Gold. Jay is wearing his in ring gear but has a black and white referees shirt draped over his shoulder in readiness for later on. Steph: I’m here with SCW superstar ahead of the Battle Royal which about to take place. Jay, could you give me your thoughts please? Jay looks at her up and down in wonderment. Jay: This is the very first Icon event, the very first Icon interview and that is the best question you can come up with? Steph: I was up all night thinking about it. Jay gives her a disappointed look before continuing. Jay: Ok…well I’m looking forward to competing against the best in Icon and proving myself as the Number One Contender. Steph: Very good answer, how did you think of it so quickly? Jay shakes his head as Steph fiddles with a notepad for her next question. Finally she finds the right page. Steph: You are also the guest referee for the Main Event tonight…that must be quite an honour? Jay: An honour to see first hand SCW drive the final nail in the coffin of ULW, yes you’re right. Steph looks at him in wonderment, as if in the presence of pure genius or something. Steph: I really cannot do you Justice Jay, why don’t you just take the mic and tell the fans of Icon what you’re thinking. You are so brainy. Steph passes the mic to a highly confused Jay and walks out of camera shot. Jay’s eyes widen but he does use the time. Jay: Where the hell did you get her from Icon? He shakes his head again. Jay: Anyway, what I think she was trying to say was, how am I going to call the match tonight, especially with one of my SCW brethren in the running to be the World Champion. Well, to be honest I am surprised that anyone could even doubt my sincerity going into this match. It goes without saying that Jay Gold will can this match fairly and straight down the middle. And if the time comes where I have to count 1-2-3 with Wheelers shoulders pinned firmly to the mat, then I shall do it, no questions asked. Jay’s attention is diverted as Desolation walks into shot, the crowd reacting accordingly. Desolation looks him up and down a couple of times then grins. Desolation: You’d better Gold…you’d better. Desolation smiles again and walks off camera allowing the lens to focus once more on Jay Gold whose face changes from one of anger at being spoken to like that to one of humour as a smile forms over his face BATTLE ROYAL HERE Icon World Championship Jason Wheeler versus Desolation We cut back to the ring where the announcer is just raising the mic to his lips Announcer: Currently in the ring, weighing in at 276 pounds and representing SCW…The Phantom King, Jason Wheeler. The fans mixed reaction is due to the attendance of many SCW fans in the arena. Wheeler holds his arms aloft and bounces of the ring ropes, before stretching out his neck and waiting for his opponent. The arena lights dim and the opening chords of the Rolling Stones' "Paint it Black" echo throughout the arena. Dream Theater's "In the Name of God" begins to play as Desolation is seen in the audience. He walks down from the upper decks of the arena through the crowd. "Hundreds of believers, Lured into a doomsday cult. All would perish, In the name of God." Desolation steps up onto the barrier between the upper deck and floor seats, raising one fist into the air. "Self-proclaimed messiah. Led his servants, To their death. Eighty murdered, In the name of God." Desolation jumps down onto the bleechers, continuing to head towards the ring "Forty sons and daughters, Un-consenting plural wives. Perversions, In the name of God." The Dark Man walks through the crowd, the fans parting way before him as he walks to the ring. Ring Announcer: And his opponent, representing ULW and weighing 274 pounds…Desolation "Underground religion, turning toward the mainstream light. Blind devotion, In the name of God." He stands up on the ring barricade, surrounded by a horde of fans as he raises both arms, making a 'C'mon!' motion. "Justifying violence. Citing from the Holy Book. Teaching hatre, In the name of God." Desolation jumps down and slides into the ring, walking across it and then stepping up onto the second rope, arms out and his sides as pyro explodes behind him. Finally he turns toward Jason Wheeler, both men refusing to take their eyes off of each other. Icon: Now this is going to be special, two men who haven’t disguised their hatred for each other, going at each other for my World Championship. Should be a good one Charlito? Charlito: It should, but this match has been hyped up for the last two weeks and hype normally falls flat on its ass. "Until The Day I Die" plays as a golden hue comes over the arena. As soon as the loud crash is heard a few measures in, Jay Gold appears on the stage wearing his referee’s shirt. He stands there for a second taking in the crowd reaction and brushing down his shirt before strolling casually down to the ring, grabbing a SCW banner along the way and waving it much to the ULW fans disgust. Icon: Seems Mr Gold wishes to irritate the ULW here tonight. That could turn out to be a mistake that could cost him. Gold slides into the ring and stands dead centre with his arms aloft. He then motions for the bell which rings, the two competitors in this match flying out their corners and into each other, tying up for the first time. Both men compete in a test of strength for a few seconds before they break, both men grinning at each other thinking that they had the upper hand. They then lock up again, Desolation slowly but surely backing Wheeler back towards the turnbuckle. As they reach it Gold jumps in to separate them but as he does and Desolation backs off, Wheeler throws a left which Desolation blocks, before tapping his head with his finger. Icon: Desolation showing that he isn’t stupid and well aware of Wheelers tricks. Mind you, you don’t stay in this business for near on two decades without learning a thing or two. Charlito: He got lucky, if he hadn’t blocked it he could have been knocked out there and then. Back in the ring Wheeler has come forward from the corner and has hooked up once again. He suddenly ties up the arm and goes behind Desolation, bending the Dark Mans arm behind his back. He is only in this predicament for a few seconds though as he rolls through the move and reverses it almost as quickly as he ended up in it. Desolation then drags Wheeler backwards, tripping him up and bringing him to the canvas where he rolls him on his front, still with the arm locked behind his back. As he applies more pressure Wheeler grimaces in pain, but then, strangely Desolation releases the hold and backs off, allowing Jason to stand up. A look of surprise fills his face but he doesn’t wait around and rocks Desolation with a left, then another, knocking him back on his heels. He then grabs his arm and whips him to the ropes, attempting a clothesline which Desolation ducks under. As Desolation hits the ropes once more Wheeler attempts a drop kick but Desolation is ready and hooks the ropes, Wheeler hitting nothing crashes to the canvas. Desolation is on him quick and a flash and hooks his head in a chin lock, driving his knee into Wheelers spine. Jay Gold bends down and asks Wheeler if he wants to quit but is waved away. Charlito: See, Gold doing his job just like he said he would. Icon: Yes, it certainly seems so. There’s plenty of time yet for Jay to show his SCW colours. Desolation drives Wheelers face into the mat, rubbing it along the canvas in a massive show of disrespect for his opponent. Still with his arm around Wheelers neck he grins at Gold who is attempting to see if Desolation has a choke applied. Every time Gold tries to get into position Desolation manoeuvres himself so the referee cannot see. Eventually Gold sees and tells Desolation to break which he does, but not before slamming his face once more into the canvas. He motions for Wheeler to get to his feet so that they can resume which Jason does, his eyes never leaving the Dark Mans. Desolation moves in and they lock up again, Desolation holding his man and kneeing him in the midriff, Wheeler bending over instinctively to the blow. Almost immediately Desolation hooks Wheeler and hoists him into the air and holds im there, upside down preparing a vertical suplex. The smile doesn’t leave his face as in a show of strength and technique he falls backwards, hitting the move with precision, the wind leaving Wheelers lungs upon impact. Desolation gets to his feet and holds his arms aloft, again begging for Wheeler to get to his feet. Wheeler obliges with the help of the ring ropes but before he can maintain his balance Desolation hits a clothesline sending Jason to the outside to a massive reaction from the crowd. Icon: Ring presence, technical ability, Desolation has it all and he is showing it in spades this evening. Jason Wheeler as yet hasn’t even got going. Charlito: But he will, and then we shall find out what Desolation is all about and if he is as good as he says he is. Desolation sits on the ropes and invites Wheeler back into the ring but Wheeler rebukes the invitation and instead takes the steps and climbs in the other side. He shakes the grogginess from his head and grabs Jay Gold, shaking him and demanding to know why he didn’t instruct the Dark Man to release what was a blatant choke. Jay pushes him away and points to his shirt and gets in Wheelers face as Desolation sneaks up behind. Seeing this Wheeler grabs Gold and just as Desolation swings a punch pushes him in the way. The punch connects to the side of Gold’s jaw, but certainly not with the force that Gold insinuates. Gold goes down holding his face as if hit with a sledgehammer, leaving Desolation with a puzzled look on his face. Realizing a possible collusion, Desolation points an intimidating finger at Jason who shrugs his shoulders, claiming not to know what’s going on. Desolation gets himself in Wheelers face, who backs off with his hands up. With Desolations attention averted, suddenly The Dawg, Damion Watson appears out the crowd with a chair in his hand and slides into the ring. Desolation alerted by the crowds reaction turns and is met with a steel chair shot to the head which nearly bends the chair in half, but doesn’t take Desolation down. Irritated by this, the Dawg swings again and this time takes Desolation hard to the mat. He chuckles to himself before sliding out the ring as security runs down to ringside and chases him out the arena. Charlito: So much for your security measures. Damion Watson getting a certain amount of retribution for all the mockery heaped on him by Desolation…you reap what you sow that’s what I say. Icon: You do indeed Charlito and there will be repercussions for that certain individual. Back in the ring Gold staggers to his feet and looks around wondering what the hell has gone on. Wheeler just shrugs again and helps Desolation to his feet, egged on by the SCW contingent. Without any compromise or remorse for what has just happened Jason lifts Desolation into the air into what looks like a vertical suplex, but then shifts his weight and brings Desolation down in a vicious Brain buster, bringing a gasp from the crowd and leaving Desolation in a heap. Deciding not to go for the cover he grabs Desolation by the air and helps him up, before rocking him with a thrust to the throat, followed by a spinning forearm and concluded with an outside crescent kick taking Desolation to the mat. Quick as a flash Wheeler goes for the cover One Two Thr…NO Desolation gets his shoulder up, the ULW fans breathing a massive sigh of relief. Icon: That could have been over right there and everyone would have understood why. The combination of two chair shots, the Brain buster and the combination blows from Jason Wheeler would have finished a lesser man. Charlito: Yeah, yeah let’s not talk about the technical ability of Jason Wheeler and his dismantling of the ULW World Champion. Icon: I have to admit, Wheeler is finally showing his mettle, and at the moment is the aggressor. With Desolation still grounded, Wheeler bounces off the ropes and lands a powerful running knee drop across the chest of Desolation, following it up with another cover. One Two Kickout Not to be outdone, Wheeler turns his man over so he is facing the mat and applies the Victoria Cross, his version of the cross face. Desolation struggles to escape but Jason has it applied to well and refuses to let go. He screams at Gold to ask for the submit which Gold does, but to which Desolation refuses. Icon: Big submission move here from Wheeler, going for the ultimate insult. In all my years I cannot remember Desolation tapping out to any man, but this could be a first right here. Gold sits right in front of Desolation, asking if he wants to quit, but Desolation tries to block out the pain and instead starts inching himself towards the ring ropes. Wheeler tries to stop him in his tracks by applying more pressure but Desolation slowly but surely gets closer and closer to breaking the hold by reaching the ropes. The crowd continues to egg him on as he gets closer, until he is finally in touching distance, but instead of waiting till he gets there, Wheeler releases the hold and stands, dropping his elbow to the back of Desolations skull. Wheeler then drags the dazed Desolation to the edge of the apron, his head and shoulders just over the edge of the mat, He then stands and climbs the turnbuckle, mocking Desolation as he stands across top rope. He then leaps from the turnbuckle and drops his leg across Desolations chest, almost snapping his body in half. Desolation slumps at ringside and Jason Wheeler goes crashing into the barricades prompting a massive pop from the crowd. Charlito: Now, that was impressive. Icon: I have to admit, that was amazing. Jason Wheeler may have just won this match right there. At ringside Wheeler is just getting to his feet, Desolation having yet to stir. Wheeler slides into the ring to break Jay Gold’s ten count, and then slides back, dragging Desolation to his feet and lifting him across his chest. He then runs full pelt into the turnbuckle, Desolations back taking the full impact, before once more ending up at ringside. Wheeler then picks him up once more before sliding him into the ring. Instead of following him though, he sees a SCW banner at ringside and takes it off the fan, waving it in the air. Back in the ring Jay Gold motions for Wheeler to get the win, but Jason ignores him, thinking that Desolation is more than incapacitated enough. Finally after posing for a while he hands the banner back and slides into the ring, booting Desolation in the face before applying the cover. One Two Three No, Desolation kicks out at the very last second, Jason Wheelers arrogance back firing on him. In anger he sits across Desolations chest and begins landing left after right without any admonishment from Jay Gold. Desolation tries to cover up the best he can until finally Wheeler stops raining in the blows and stands, his arms aloft, believing this match to be almost over. Icon: Is this over confidence once more from Wheeler? Charlito: Not at all, this is Jason Wheeler showing the crowd that he is the better man and that ULW accounts for nothing when put against SCW. Icon: If you say so Charlito, but let’s not forget I own this place and pay your wages. Disagreeing with me too often could be a bad career choice. Charlito: Whatev…ok boss. Wheeler again helps Desolation up, and whips him face first towards the turnbuckle, following up with a forearm smash to the back of Desolations head. He then grabs his opponents head and time after time rams his face into the turnbuckle. He then places Desolation on the second strands and back drops him to the canvas, using the momentum to roll into a pin fall. One Two Thr… Again, Desolation manages to get the shoulder up, this time not as emphatically as before. The ULW fans seemingly realises this begin to chant his name, trying to get him back into this match. Wheeler again throws his opponent into the turnbuckle, running in and lifting his knee once more into the damaged spine of his opponent. Wheeler spins him around and climbs the turnbuckle, grabbing Desolations head and hitting a bull dog, Desolations head bouncing sickeningly off the mat.. Wheeler lifts Desolation to his knees and mocks him, taking no notice of the crowd noise intensifying. But Gold has taken notice, and is looking up the ramp way as Hurse and Robin Brooks appear at the top of the ramp. They make no move towards the ring, but the mere sight of them infuriates Jay Gold. Wheeler seeing this drops Desolation to the mat and begins to remonstrate with Gold, telling him to get them away from the ring area. Charlito: What’s this if it isn’t interference? Icon: They have done nothing wrong yet…they need to forget about Hurse and Brooks and pay more attention to what’s going on in the ring. Back in the ring Desolation is beginning to get to his feet having blown off the cobwebs. Hurse and Brooks just stand there with massive grins on there faces, laughing at Gold and Wheeler drawing their attention to them as opposed to behind them. Finally, Gold and Wheeler look at each other and then behind them, realising that Desolation has got to his feet and is just stood there a look of anger etched all over his face. Gold takes a step to the side, wanting to distance himself from Wheeler, but Wheeler shows no cowardice and dares Desolation to advance, mockingly beckoning him with his finger. Desolation just laughs and without pausing walks forward towards Wheeler. Both men begin trading lefts and rights, each rocking the other with each blow but neither willing to back down. From out of nowhere Desolation blocks one
