Hypothesis: When studied, statistics show that in relation with socio-economic status, Chelmer is above average, West end is average and Inala is below average. These statistics, when compared with Brisbane are the same but Brisbane is well above average having the highest socio-economic status.

3.0 Statistical Analysis
Statistics give us an idea about the people in a suburb, how they live, their education and their income. All of these aspects determine the socio-economic status of the suburb. The socio-economic status of a suburb determines how the suburb is seen to everyone else and how it is ranked against other suburbs.

3.1 Schools - Private and Public
3.1.1 Private or public school is a big issue in society. A socio-economic status can be altered because of what school your children attend. Private schools cost a lot of money and only families ‘with money’ can send there children to private schools. Sending children to a private school can show wealth and the amount of money one person has can impact on the socio-economic status of the suburb they live in.

West End Inala Chelmer Brisbane

Private School 18.55% 13.91% 86.4% 41.25%

Public School 81.14% 86.09% 13.5% 48.00%

3.1.2 Private School The graph shown (Schooling – Private, Fig.1) below is the given data percentage for students attending a private school. These statistics support the hypothesis. With only Brisbane disagreeing. Brisbane has the highest s.e.s but has the second highest amount of students attending a private school.

3.1.3 Public School The statistics shown in the graph below (Schooling – Public, Fig.2) are the percentage of students attending a Public school. These results also agree with the hypotheses stated. Chelmer being above average in accordance with socio-economic status, has the lowest percentage of students attending a public school, Followed by Brisbane having the next lowest percentage and being the suburb with the highest socio-economic status. Once again Brisbane is the only suburb not agreeing with the hypothesis.

3.1.4 Education helps determine the socio-economic status of a suburb. The schooling of someone can also help us see their income and education level and this is where as a community we look at the suburb and the people in it. Then we see where people fit in with the surrounding suburbs and compare them with the status of the people occupying particular suburbs.
