Reflection
Looking back on this design studio, I am thoroughly satisfied with outcome of these course objectives. I truly believe that this course accomplished all of the above course objectives. I think that this course was very successful in helping me develop skills while exploring my own interests. As a student, I was supposed to develop my knowledge across the boundaries of just E-crit/DMS by being challenged intellectually, critically, through my design and in my endeavors into the electronic world of Digital Media. I definitely was able to strengthen my skills in programs such as Adobe Premier and Macromedia Dreamweaver. Ultimately, I was able to think more deeply about the route I want to take in life when it comes to a career in the many fields of Digital Media. My projects most definitely have their strengths and their weaknesses. "Growing Up Under Surveillance" was a large step forward for me in connecting theory to media. I feel that I was able to connect my theories as well as notable scholarly theories into a short, but effective automated flipbook. I do, however, wish that my flip book would have been more pleasing graphically. "The Detroit People Mover" was a fun project for me to work on. I believe that this project's strengths lie in its critical design. The navigation of this site loops in endless circles (just like the DPM) as well as allowing viewers to get off at any time by going to the site map. The images I used in this project I am also very satisfied. All images in this project are 100% mine with the exception of the DPM map, which I manipulated beyond recognition from it's original form. One thing I would have done differently on my DPM project would be to add more theory into my reflection. All in all, I believe that this course was a great experience for me. Digital Media is important in today's society. Without knowledge of how to create and convey ones ideas visually over the World Wide Web, one's theory and information can become lost in translation.
