the, ahem, undramatized story.
During my 2 week away camp, we went hiking for 6 days on the Appalachian Trail, which goes through 14 states from Geogia to Maine. We hiked in Massachusetts.

day 1
A smidge worse than hell. We're a smidge worse than hell here! But tomorrow morning? well, that'll be another story....
I had a decision as to whether I wanted to go on this trip & I could have decided right up until the vans pulled away because I was sick the other day. I chose to stick it out because I didn't want the guilt of knowing I had wimped out. Bad Idea! Here's how it goes...
We woke up at 3:30 this morning, which wasn't too bad because we slept on the way up. The car ride, I must say, was alot of fun (once we woke up). We had good music and we kept getting lost- it was great. Lol, anyway, it took like 8 hours and we had to go through a few creepy witch towns but we finally got there. Now, here's where it gets "fun". It started pouring rain so we had to fixate our mammoth frame back packs while crawing around a mini-van- not cool. Then we started hiking- it was 3 miles we did but it was semi-brutal (i say semi- because it's only gonna get worse) because I had 30 lbs. on my back! So it took 2 hours and by the time we got to the campsite, guess what? It was pouring rain again. Now this is where it gets even better- there was this big-ass cabin (very rare on the Appalachian Trail) there and this smelly old guy but he gave us the biggest 'tude and we couldn't sleep in the cabin. It was for thru-hikers only and there are 12 of us. So we had to pitch tents on tent-platforms in the pouring rain. Here's a list of problems we had:
-A hole in out tarp/groundcover
-A missing tent pole
-Wet packs and gear
-Annoying campers
It was HORRIBLE. As a matter of fact, as I write this, it still is....
Anyway, for dinner, we had dry, crumbly pita bread with dried fruit because it was too cold and wet to cook. Nasty-o. Linda, Mandi, and I could NOT stop laughing at ht ehumor in this situation because there was nothing better to do. We laughed at the tent, the puddles in the tent, the food, each other, the irony, ect. lol, we were/are hysterically miserable. Things got alittle better because we were scheduled to meet friends on the trail and I was the first to meet them. Their name are Guana (or Turtle as I might refer to her) and Sonic (Trail names) and they're really nice. Well the rain is picking up so I'll write more tomorrow.
Later.

Day 2
This will be short because I am soo tired. Today was a long day. We hiked 9 miles! Wow... I didn't think we could but we did and we just had to do some stuff in the dark once we got to them campsite. I like hiking in the front of the group because I don't have to catch up all the time. Hiking is really hard work and very tiring. Half the group was really far behind and took a wrong turn. It was good for me, Linda, Corinne, Jen and Turtle though because we got a nice long break. Tomorrow, we want to get up early and get out early because Sonic says it's alot easier and she's probably right.
Well, goodnight.

Day 3
Well, today started very nicely. We got up alot earlier and got a really nice start. Breakfast was also much better than yesterday (and that makes a diffrence). ( Yesterday = freeze-dried omelets :-( Today = poptarts and oatmeal :-) ) We also got most of our milage in before lunch. Yay! I admit, though, this trail is making me excited over stupid stuff.... Anyway, things started to turn downhill (and I'm not talking about the terrain) with some LOUD thunder. Now, we all know what comes with that and when it rains, it pours. We got SO wet and had to pitch tents in the rain. My clothes were sopping! It just got worse and worse. Now, instead of getting giddy, my tent sorta had a LARGE pitty-party before going to bed. So... thats all for now... (We are miserable!)

Day 4
Wow. Not a bad day altogether. Later start, but we had a huge revival: a town!!! (We are so pathetic) We hiked through a town in this half welcoming-half "Whoa this is creepy/funny" pizza place (If you understand that...) It was so good, and I had lemonade. We also had a pack-party in the parking lot of the laundromat (laundromat ~ also a blessing) It felt so good to get rid of like 6 oz... lol, every oz. counts! We'll be picking up the stuff we left there later though. Then there was an ok hike to the campsite - acually shorter than I thought (yay!). We were in better spirits too. (Don't we sound like angels? (sarcastically)) Anyway, this tent is damn hot! Sleeping bags are dry too. Mine ised to be like the community sleeping bag because SOME people can't share... Well, I better go.
Oh, also- we're plaing Reincarnation- sweet!
Another thing- BIG mountain tomorrow! Noooo! Another town too, but BIG mountain! uphill all day... ugh...

Day 5
Ok, this entry is being written in the rain. We've had like 3 thunderstorms is 5 unlucky days! Not fair! Not natural! Lol, today turned out better than I imagined that it would. We went through another crazily-quiet witch town. It was called Cheshire, though. I thought that was cool. We got some crazy-good views too, the first time all week! So stupid... Last year we got like 2 good views the first day. Lol, we're now half way up the big-ass mountain (ahem, the highest point in Massechusetts) Mt. Greylock. It was acually easier (so far) than I thought it would be (thats a first...). I was in the front of the line thw whole time. Yay! I've gotta stop bragging about that because it's the last day and I've done that all along. No big feat anymore...
Anyway, it's our last night in this goddamned tent. This thing's caused us so many nights of stupid problems that were more trouble than they were worth. Well, I'm not sure about that, but...
I'm trailing off and I'm tired so... Later days.
Sidenote: A very funny book was written by a guy that hiked the Appalachian Trail- it's hilarious- called A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson. lol, go read it.
