In my immediate family I have a dad, a mom, and two older brothers. My dad's name is Bert and he was born in Hawaii before it became a state. My mom's name is Lynn and she was actually born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin but the land was so great in Oregon that her family hitched up the covered wagon and headed west on the Oregon Trail. Just kidding, my mom isn't that old. My oldest brother is Kevin and he was born on Winnie-the-Pooh's birthday. He always takes care of me when I stay over in California. Kevin is married to Jodi so not only has the male/female ratio evened out but my mom now has someone who appreciates the jewelry she buys. My other older brother is Craig, who also lives in California...at least for now. And then there is sweet little me, Cara Leone Chiyoko Kawahara. I am the beloved one (hey, that's what Cara means) of the family but don't ask my brothers since they call me a brat. This is our little family that resided in Pearl City from the 1970's until all of us kids went away for school and jobs. Now just my mom and dad live there with occasional visits from the kids. On my mom's side of the family, I have a fun Grandpa. My loving and witty Grandma died in July 2002. Gramps was in World War II while Grandma was back in the United States waiting for him to return. When he came back, they got married and had 5 kids (my mom, Debby, George, Laura, and Ken). They now have 13 grandkids (Kevin, Craig, me, Erinn, Laura, Carly, Carrie, Chris, Renae, Kendra, Jon, Sandy, and KJ) and 4 great-grandkids. On my dad's side of the family, I have another loving Grandma. My Grandpa died when I was 8 but I remember having lots of fun with him. Grandma and Grandpa were both born in Hawaii a long time ago and so they had Japanese names at birth (Chiyoko and Toshio, respectively). When they went to school, the teachers told them to choose "American" names. Grandma chose Peggy and Grandpa chose Jerry. They had 5 kids too but all boys (my dad, Dennis, Brian, Francis, Alan). Grandma has 10 grandkids (Kevin, Craig, me, Derrick, Pam, Blaine, Jamie, Casey, Layne, and Kiana) and 4 great-grandkids. Here's a small family tree but since I don't have the family tree that I made in high school with me here, I don't have all the dates and so some of the birthdates might be wrong. |
