BURKE PLAYGROUND PROJECT

"Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity."
-- Kay Redfield Jamison

Welcome to the Burke Playground Project website!

The Burke Town School Playground has many problems. Erected in 1997, its wooden structure is deteriorating, causes a hazard to children. It is located on top of an active septic system, fails to meet Federal requirements for handicapped accessibility, and does not meet industry design and safety standards.

Our project committee consists of parents, community members, staff, families of special needs children, and most importantly, the students themselves. It is our goal to replace the existing playground with a new playground that addresses these safety concerns and the needs of disabled children in and around our community. We understand that play is an important part of the emotional, cognitive, social and physical development of children of all ages and abilities. We want to make this common activity of childhood available to all children.

In the upcoming weeks, we will be conducting several fundraising campaigns to get this project off the ground. If you are interested in making a donation, please contact us for information or donations can be mailed to the address listed later on this page.

Below you will find the design proposal we have received from Ultiplay Parks & Playgrounds, Inc., our Playworld Systems representitive.
