A peoples center, catalyzing the process of development
by providing a sustainable livelihood for the tribals of Western Orissa.
The period of 1990 saw the initiation and
development of JJRDA at Telitilemal Gram Panchyat. Jeevan Jyoti Rural
Development Association popularly known as JJRDA, since its establishment
dedicated to the up-liftment of the rural and tribal people of Western Orissa
and has devoted a major share of its efforts towards the promotion of educating
the people on the facts of sustainable development, agriculture, forestry,
environmental sanition and above all peace and harmony with interpersonal
understanding and cooperation. The Association focuses its activities on
up-liftment of poorest of the poor of the society.
The Association from its inception directing
its concentrated efforts to create awareness and fundamental understanding
amongst professionals and experts to meet the requirement of the changing faces
of people’s development and other forces essential to protect human rights and
sustainable development process with active people’s participation.
JJRDA is located in a rented house Near
Jagannath temple of Kuchinda in the district of Sambalpur, Orissa.
There are regular private buses playing from
Sambalpur, Jharshuguda and Deograh. by road it is 80 kms from Sambalpur and 50
kms from Deogarh and Jharshuguda. The nearest Railway Station is Bmara that is
48 kms away from Kuchinda.

ò Community Seed Production Programme:
The Seed Production Programme was implemented
in Telitilemal village of Kuchinda Block with support from CAPART (East Zone),
Bhubaneswar. The aim of the programme was to transfer the seed production
technologies to small and marginal farmers. The beneficiaries were given
training on Seed production Programme during April99.The resource person for
the training were

In the first phase of the programme, soil
testing is done in the Sambalpur Soil Testing Laboratory. Foundation seeds of
MTV 7029 and CR-1009 were used for the production of seeds. Also the
beneficiaries were supplied with one set of implements of IC plough and HS
plough. Also for assured irrigation diesel pumps were supplied to the
beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries were organized in the form
of a cooperative named Telitilemal Seed Growers Farmers Society. An exposure
trip was organized by JJRDA. The seed processing located at Deogarh was the
venue for the exposure trip. The farmers learnt about the need of processing of
seeds. Mr. Ahemad , the incharge of the plant nicely explained the seed
processing process. He also explained why there is a need of seed processing
and the importance of quality seed.
After the harvesting of seeds about 111
quintals, it was sold to MAA Smaleswai Seeds, Gosala. Also a formal tie up was
made with Nagarjuna Fertilizers for supply of seeds. From this programme 22
number of farmers were benefited with a total land of 20 acres. Though it was a
small attempt, JJRDA feels that it was a great success as the farmers were
organized into a group. The fear for the programme was successfully thrown out
of the mind of the farmers about the programme. Now they are highly interested
to continue this programme onwards.
8.2-Reproductive and Child health:
This project was taken under the project of
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare under mother NGO scheme. It is the new
approach of family planning. The component of the programme were awareness,
advocacy, training, formation of village level health committees, liasioning
with PHC, CHC, Sub centers, ICDSS, PLRS and people organizations. The program
started from August 99 and continued for three months. The project covered 20
villages of Tainser and Telitilemal GP with a population of 6102. The programme
was need-based demand driven, high quality, and client-oriented service to the
target population growth, reduce MMR, IMR and increase in CPR and ensure
reproductive health service for the women.
The staff training was organized for 4 days
from 18th to 21st of August99. Dr. B Sahu of Kuntara PHC,
Dr. G Pradhan of SD Hospital Kuchinda, Dr. B Baral Kuntara PHC and Mr.
Kashinath Mishra were the trainers for the training. A volunteer training was
organised during 10th to 12th September at Laidaguna High
School.
In this project 20 number of village level
RCH committees were formed and village committees meetings were organized every
month. The P.R Representatives, Anganwadi workers, school teachers, youth club
members were included in the committees. A project level RCH Committees was
organized including PHC medical officers, CDPO, Kuchinda, ICDS supervisors,
LHV, Kuntara PHC and ANM, Telitilemal and Laidaguna.
Wall Painting, Poster campaign, video shows,
book distribution, leaflet distribution were the IEC activities. A total of 700
posters, 600 books, 1000 leaflets and 60 number of wall painting had been done
in this project. The cycle rallies have been conducted with 45 participants to
convey the message of Safe Motherhood and Child health. Under the referral
service 8 number of referral service have been referred to SD hospital,
Kuchinda. The volunteers of the programme regularly attends the immunization
camps,pulse polio camps with their active involvement. The programme was for
three month. After that one volunteer of JJRDA is in regular touch with the
committees and ensure its smooth progress. A field level office has been opened
at Arjubdihi. There is regular supply of medicines, condoms, books and manuals
on RCH. Volunteers and general public are coming for regular discussion. JJRDA
believes that within a period of three months it has created a resonable impact
anong the public through this project.
8.3-National Environment Awareness
Campaign (NEAC)-98-99:
The NEAC 98-99 was celebrated during May 99
in Telitilemal and Tainser Grampanchyat on 19th and 20th
of May 1999.Padayatra, cycle rally, workshop and resource material distribution
were the components of the programme. Above programme was covered in 20
villages of Telitilemal and Tainser Gram Panchyat. Meetings were organized
during the campaign. Resource materials were distributed. The workshop
organized at Telitilemal UP School. Dr. B.B. Panigrahi, Saroof Kumar Mohanty,
Fr. P Dani were attyended as resource person. A total of 90 participants were
attended the workshop.
8.4- National Environment Awareness
Campaign (NEAC)-99-2000:
The NEAC 99-2000 was organized on 20th
and 26th Feb. 2000. Padayatra and public meetings were organized on
20th Feb.2000. During Padayatra both male and female volunteers
covered 6 villages of Telitilemal Grampanchyat and attended the public meetings
at Arjundihi.The resource persons were B.B Panigrahi, Md. Aslam Khan, N Behera
and P Singh of Forest Department.50 participants of different villages attended
the meetings. On 26th a competition among school children was
organized at G.P high school of Tainser.15 students from 3 high school attended
the competition. Prizes and merit certificates were distributed to all students
who own the prize.
TRAINING
Organic Farming and Vermi-composting:
The training on organic farming and
vermicomposting was organized at Arjundihi at field office premises on March,
2000.A total of 18 participants from village of Telitilemal and Arjundihi were
attended the programme. Mr. Kashinath Mishra and Shila Ram Sahoo of YSD , Angul
conducted the training. The demonstration and composting and vermicomposting
was done in the one of the farmers field of Arjundihi.

proposed to be taken up during the year 1998- 2005 AD.

ò Conservation and propagation of medicinal plants at
Gandhamardan hill Ranges
ò JFM program in all tribal villages of Kuchinda Block
The management of JJRDA is delegated to the
Executive Body , constituted of specialized and experiences personnel from
different fields. The Executive Body conducts day to day affairs of the society
and project management with the aid and advice of Board of Advisors. The
president heads the Board of management. Secretary is the Executive Officer of
the Association.
JJRDA, to directs its program and activities
in a dignified manner has not only constituted a board of Advisors but also
developed a panel of consultants constitute of experts from agriculture,
forestry, social science etc.
