  • 1 cup of Whole Wheat
  • ½ cup Moong Beans (Moong Dal Chilkay Waali) (with skin)
  • ½ cup Rice
  • 4 cups Water
  • ½ cup Green Peas (Mattar) (frozen or fresh)
  • 1 cup Onion (finely chopped)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • ½ tsp. Garam Masala Powder
  • 1 tsp. Red Chilli Powder (Pisi Lal Mirch)

  1. In a pressure cooker, add all the ingredients and put on high heat. When the pressure is about to come, slow down the heat and cook for 15 minutes.
  2. Remove from heat and open the the cooker after 5 minute and add peas and stir. Cover the cooker and leave for 5 minute.
  3. Garnish with onion.

Tip: The consistency of the dalia should not be too thin, it should be like that of a very very thick soup.

It is a good idea not to allow the cooker to whistle. When you feel that the cooker is about to whistle, slow down the heat. This way the ingredients will not fly away with the release of steam. This method although takes a slightly longer time but you will save a lot cleaning time. Also it is a silent way of cooking, not disturbing to older people and sleeping children as well.

This is a very nutritious and healthy dish with all the benefits of whole-grains. It is a good breakfast dish and even as a main dish in meals. It is good for the stomach and also for ill people.
