Cimmeron Ranch

Cimmeron Ranch

The Cimmeron Ranch, based in Van, TX (near Tyler), boasts a growing population of pure American Indian Horses, and is devoted to the promotion and preservation of this rare and wonderful breed. We started out with a handful of grade horses back in 1994, but were soon introduced to the Indian horse breed by some new friends in Canton,TX. After competing with them for several years, we decided to buy our own spanish horses and couldn't stop with just one, or two, or ten. We now boast a population of 18 purebreds and expect a handful more in the spring.

Our "home" registry is now the American Indian Horse Registry.

Rigoletto and David Frey

Rigoletto (SMR 2110, AIHR O-3356, HOA pending), out of Miss Lightning (SMR 1480) by Chief Masada (SMR 890), has been hard at work this year. At his first Netasa playday he came home with Champion "O", Champion Indian Horse, and Champion "Adult Open". Then, he went to his first East Texas Riders show and came in one point short of the adult class trophy. Next came the A.I.H.R. National Show held in Corsicana, TX. This was Riggy's first judged show, and he did great. He placed Champion in the "O" Aged Stallion halter class and Reserve Champion halter Overall. By the end of the show he had also racked up Reserve Champion "O" for show, and Champion Adult. Shortly after, he went to the Southwest Regional Show (I know that sounds backwards, but stuff happens) where he placed Reserve Champion "O" Aged Stallion (halter)and Reserve Champion halter for show. At the end of the show he had also earned Champion "O" overall, coming in one point behind the reserve champion overall horse. The next weekend we went to the Kiamichi Mountains in Oklahoma for the SSMA show where we decided we just wanted to play and spent the whole weekend trail riding in the beautiful Oklahoma hills. The weekend after that we accidentally bumped into the Southwest Missouri Foxtrotting Club who invited us to compete with them in their trail competition where Riggy earned Second Place in the Men's division. Then, the weekend after that we went to Missouri for the first annual HOA meeting where Riggy tied with Maria Ice (ridden by Kim Downing) for Show Champion. All in all, I would say he had a great first year in competition. Rigoletto is now taking his much earned winter vacation and is eagerly awaiting his spring romances. Riggy's 2001 stud fee is $200.

Non Indian Horses
Blessing (AA- )-"Blessing" is a 1993 model Arab/Quarter Horse cross. He was one of the first horses we had and was instrumental in the founding and building of Cimmeron Ranch.

Cimmeron--"Cimmi" is a 1992 model Arab/Quarter Horse cross. He was also one of our first horses and is well know in NETASA for his fiery temperment. Cimmi is one of the best horses you could use for trail riding, but hates going into an arena. At the 1997 AIHR National Show he reared and fell over backwards on David, who was riding him in the Forest Escape event. The wreck was caused by faulty tack that pinched his mouth and increased his fear of arenas. Despite his many problems, he is still one of the best loved members of our ranch.

Cimmeron Cito--"Cito" is a 1994 model Arab/Quarter cross. "Cito" and Joseph have won many awards together including National Champion 1997 Junior class in AIHR.

Twister--is a 1994 model Arab/Quarter cross. He and Jessica have competed in many AIHR events together.

MARIAH--"Mariah" was our first horse and has been the love of children in more petting zoos and pony rides than we care to remember. He is now happily munching away in the pasture with "his" mares. He is the only horse that doesn't get pushed around out there and can still play just as hard as the colts.

The Two Legged People of Cimmeron Ranch

1) Carlann--Out of "Ruthann Smith" by "Carl Smith" "Carlann" is a 1956 model Caucasion mare with an even disposition. "Carlann" has been noted for working to hard as a Firefighter and Paramedic for the city of Dallas. "Carlann" has had five foals, which she rased on her own since 1991. Caution!! Do not anger!! Carlann and her foals participate in living history activities, such as Mountain Man "Rendezvous" and "Renaissance Faires". Carlann is an excellent marksman with a rifle, bow, and tomahawk.

2) David--out of "Carlann Frey" by "Richard E. Frey". "David" is a 1979 model Caucasion colt with reddish brown mane and copper beard. This colt has a "difficult" disposition, but works well with four legged brothers. Can be cagey in a stall, and has a tendency to travel on a whim.

3) Joseph--"Joseph" is a 1986 model colt out of "Carlann Frey" by "Richard E. Frey". "Joseph" is a "difficult" colt, but is very smart. He is known for crashing the family computer, but can fix it almost as fast as he crashes it. He will probably make a great computer tech. when he comes of age. Joseph will be riding "Braveheart" this year in competition.

4) Jessica--"Jessica" is a 1988 model filly out of "Carlann Frey" by "Richard E. Frey". "Jessica" is known for her short attention span, but is expected to grow out of it (by her dam at least). She loves working with horses and plans on being a famous trainer and a farrier. She played football for the Vandals in 2000, and she wants to go to the pro's. She is currently readying "Keeper of the Clouds" for the 2001 show season.
