If It Weren't For Kids

If it weren't for kids
Have you ever thought
Wouldn't be no Santa Claus
Look what the stork just brought
Thank God for kids

And we'd all live in a quiet house
With out Big Bird or Mickey Mouse
Kool Aid on the couch
Thank God for kids

Thank God for kids
There's magic for a while
A special kind of sunshine
In a smile
Do you ever stop to think or wonder why
The nearest thing to Heaven is a child

Daddy, how does this thing fly
Hundred other wheres and whys
You really don't know but you try
Thank God for kids

When you look down in those trusting eyes
That look to you
You realize
There's a love that you can't buy
Thank God for kids

Thank God for kids
There's magic for a while
A special kind of sunshine in a smile
Do you ever stop to think or wonder why
The nearest thing to Heaven
Is a child

When you get down on your knees tonight
To thank the Lord for His guiding light
Pray they turn out right
Thank God for kids

Little Girl

Her parents never took he young girl to church
Never spoke of His name Never read her His word
Two nonbelievers walking lost in this world
Took their baby with them, what a sad little girl

Her daddy drank all day and mommy did drugs
Never wanted to play or give kisses and hugs
She’d watch the TV and sit there on the couch
While her mom fell asleep and her daddy went out
And the drinking and the fighting
Just got worse every night
Behind their couch she'd be hiding
Oh what a sad little life

And like it always does he bad just got worse
With every slap and every curse
Until her daddy in a drunk rage one night
Used a gun on her mom and then took his life

And some people from a city took the girl far away
To a new mom and a new dad kisses and hugs every day

Her first day of Sunday school he teacher walked in
And a small little girl stared at a picture of Him
She said I know that man up there on that cross
I don’t know his name but I know he got off
Cause he was there in my old house and held me close to his side
As I hid there behind our couch the night that my parents died

We are the world We are the children
We are the ones who make a brighter day So let's start giving
There's a choice we're making We're saving our own lives
And it's true we'll make a brighter day Just you and me.
