David Kendall Leslie

Born 27 APR 1843 Lancaster, Gerrard, Kentucky. Died 24 JAN 1924 Cattletsburg, Kentucky. He was the son of John P. Leslie and Jane Hogan.

He married Alafair Arthurs. Born 15 AUG 1844 Kentucky. Died 4 APR 1923 Cattletsburg, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Eli James Arthurs and Margaret Octavia Shockey.

David Kenerly Leslie was born April 27, 1843 the only son of John P. Leslie and Jane Hogan. He was married Feb. 16, 1861 to Alafair Arthur daughter of Eli & Margaret Arthur. David was 17 yrs at this time and Alafair was 16. They were married by Rev. M.T. Burris at her parent's home. After their marriage, they lived on a farm on Whites Creek, Boyd County, Ky. known as Zack Nichol's place.They moved from Whites Creek to Blaine in Lawrence County & then to Dave Spear's place near the Oakland Church in Boyd County . David spent his early life teaching school and fiddling for entertainment. He also kept store on East Fork of the Little Sandy River. He was converted to religion in a "little log church " somewhere in Boyd County . He was ordained an elder in the Methodist Church in 1884. He became a minister and later an evangelist. His grandson, the Rev. Bryan Edmunds says: "He hung up the fiddle and the bow and concentrated on preaching God's Word " He was held in high esteem and was a forceful speaker. He kept a record of funeal prayers. David Leslie was described as medium height, blue eyes, fair complection and grew a beard that hung to his waist. Rev. Leslie & Mrs. Leslie were parents to ten children.
