Look at the body … on that there geetar
You folks in Green Hills may be wondering why there were a bunch of scantily clad women and muscle cars in a well-lit H.G. Hills parking lot Tuesday night.
That's right. It was just another Steven Curtis Chapman block party. (I'm kidding. Everyone knows Steven doesn't like muscle cars.)
In fact, Tracy Byrd was doing a video for his latest radio single, The Truth About Men. And I guess the truth about men is they like scantily clad women and muscle cars. But the truth about Tracy and some of his guy country star buddies is that they're apparently more interested in music.
Between camera takes, Tracy, Andy Griggs, Eddie Montgomery, Troy Gentry and Blake Shelton sat on Tracy's bus and passed the guitar and sang songs. Bluebird on the Bus. I was lucky enough to be able to watch, and it was one of the coolest hangs ever.
For those of you interested in the cars and women, look for the video later this month.
3/31/03 Tracy Byrd Spills The Beans With New Hit Single
"THE TRUTH ABOUT MEN"
NASHVILLE, TN -- Tracy Byrd's new single has been striking a chord with
men... and, perhaps surprisingly, women. Tracy beams and says, "By the
middle of my performance of "The Truth About Men," the men are nodding
their heads in agreement and saying 'someone finally had the guts to say
what we are really thinking,' while the women are jabbing their
significant others with their elbows and saying 'that's exactly the way
you are!!' Both sexes are identifying with this song and at the same time
it's putting big smiles on their faces!"
Other male country artists weren't afraid to tell the truth either as
Tracy's buddies Montgomery Gentry, Andy Griggs and Blake Shelton joined
him on the hilarious track. The guys gathered in the studio to learn the
song while Tracy served up adult beverages to help "loosen 'em up." When
Griggs asked if it was time to sing yet, Tracy grinned and said, "not
yet," and served up one more round.
"The Truth About Men" is the debut single from Tracy's newest RCA album of
the same name, due out this summer. Radio station phones are ringing off
the hook as the hit song rises up the country charts with a Breaker at #25
on R&R and #30 on Billboard.
Music Row magazine enthuses, "'The Truth About Men'" is totally an
ear-to-ear grin. Ya gotta love this hillbilly romp. It's just the thing to
lighten our hearts."
Look for an over the top, star-studded video to hit screens in April.

Great Escape--Stars Chill Out

...Sitting by a campfire, Andy Griggs prioritizes. "The two biggest things at Country In The Rockies," he says, "are your guitar and your skis. At night, you play songs. I've played songs I've just written and old songs I love, including Hank Sr. tunes. And during the day, you ski." He chuckles. "I hope I'm better at my guitar than I am at skiing!"
After downing his own breakfast creation – a bowl brimming with low-fat granola, milk and Capt'n Crunch – Andy spends the afternoon on the slopes conquering moguls. "Skiing gives me the things I love about hunting," he explains, "and that's inspiring scenery and peacefulness. Man, you can't look at the Rocky Mountains and think there's no God."...

Fish Tales
...When Brad first met fellow singer Andy Griggs, they bonded over fishing, not music.
Andy told me one of the most perfect fishing stories I've ever heard. It involves him and his dad, who passed away a few years back. Andy came home to Louisiana for a visit and he could tell his dad had a lot on his mind. They hadn't been fishing for a while so even though it was raining really hard this particular Saturday, they went anyway.
Andy said, "Daddy, I don't think we're going to catch much fish in this weather." His dad had a real serious look on his face and said, "That's all right, son. It's not about the fish. Sometimes a man just needs to go fishing."

11/4/02 ANDY GRIGGS GOES ‘MILE HIGH’ FOR “MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL”
NASHVILLE, TN - RCA Records artist ANDY GRIGGS is going ‘Mile High’ next Monday when he visits the Denver Broncos, Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII champions, to perform the National Anthem at their game against the Oakland Raiders. The November 11 contest is taking place on Veterans’ Day and performing the anthem will be especially meaningful for Andy.
“It’s always an honor to sing ‘The Star Spangled Banner,’ but it will be even more special when I think of the men and women who defend our freedom,” said Griggs. “I appreciate their sacrifices and I’m proud to be able to recognize their contributions to our country on Veterans’ Day.”
10/21/02 ANDY GRIGGS TOASTS FRIENDS IN THE “BIG EASY”
“PRACTICE LIFE” CONTINUES TO CLIMB
NASHVILLE, TN - Some friendships between musicians seem destined to blossom. But you might be surprised to learn that RCA Records artist ANDY GRIGGS and blues rocker Tom Keifer, lead singer of Cinderella, have become fast friends since Keifer moved to Music City a few years ago. The two share a love of blues music, so they were introduced by Keifer’s then-girlfriend, songwriter Savannah Snow. The trio got along so well they collaborated on a song for Andy’s recently released sophomore album, Freedom. “A Hundred Miles of Bad Road” also features Keifer’s distinctive vocals and exceptional guitar work, alongside Andy’s soulful performance.
It should come as no surprise that when Savannah and Tom decided to marry earlier this month, they felt the celebration wouldn’t be complete without two things: Andy Griggs and hurricanes. So the logical destination for their big day was, of course, Andy’s home state of Louisiana: New Orleans to be exact. The couple almost got more than they bargained for, though, when the National Hurricane Center predicted the arrival of Hurricane Lili a short time before the nuptials were to take place.
Andy wasn’t sure he would even be able to travel to the ceremony because of closed roads and stacked-up airports. In fact, his tour bus had to take an eight-hour detour the day before from a concert in Texas to one in Georgia. Fortunately, the storm passed in time for the ceremony to proceed as scheduled at the elegant Saint Louis Hotel in the French Quarter. Turns out, the hurricane Keifer was interested in wasn’t the weather phenomenon, rather it was the famous rum-based cocktail.
“Tom and Savannah are great friends, so I wouldn’t have missed their wedding for anything. The chance to see him in a tuxedo made up for having to run to Pat O’Brien’s to bring him ‘real’ hurricanes,” laughed Griggs.
“Practice Life,” featuring Martina McBride, from Andy’s critically acclaimed album, Freedom, continues its climb up the country singles charts. It holds the #32 slot on R&R and #37 on Billboard this week.
10/14/02 ANDY GRIGGS HONORS “QUEEN OF COUNTRY MUSIC”
“PRACTICE LIFE” HEADS UP THE CHARTS
NASHVILLE, TN - RCA Records artist ANDY GRIGGS’ reverence is deep for the musical stars that came before him. That’s why he was on stage at the famed Ryman Auditorium in Nashville last night. The event was to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Kitty Wells’ signature hit “It Wasn’t God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels” and to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association of Middle Tennessee and NashvilleREAD
Andy joined a host of artists including Porter Wagoner, Ray Price, Vassar Clements, BR549, Crystal Gayle, Jerry and Tammy Sullivan and many other celebrities to salute the “Queen of Country Music.” He performed the gospel favorites, “Gathering Flowers for the Master’s Bouquet” and “I Cried Holy,” with Jerry and Tammy Sullivan, who are his wife Stephanie’s father and sister. In fact, Andy played with the Grammy-nominated gospel bluegrass duo some years back and met his wife through the gig.
“I’ll drop whatever I’m doing to play with Uncle Jug and Tammy,” said Griggs. “It’s my pleasure to be able to honor Miss Kitty Wells and I’m glad we could raise money for good causes at the same time.”
“Practice Life,” from Andy’s acclaimed sophomore album FREEDOM, continues its climb up the country singles charts. It holds the #36 slot on R&R and #38 on Billboard this week.

9/02 GenerationCountry.comAndy Griggs: The Heart of Country
When Andy Griggs first picked up a guitar and started playing, his goal was not to become a country singer. His goal was to ease the aching of a heart that had just lost his hero, older brother, Mason. His audience was non-existent, because no one was allowed to tread upon that nearly sacred time of him alone with the music and his hurt. But soon, that music, the music of his brother, became part of his soul, part of his heart and there was no turning back.

Artist: Andy Griggs
Label: RCA
Produced by: David Malloy
Andy Griggs has said that as of late his life has been about freedom, especially with his music. Turn on his second release Freedom, and I think you'll agree Griggs has truly expanded his boundaries. While he did not leave behind the Southern rock roots so evident in the first CD, Griggs experiments with many different sounds and ideas. The hit song "Tonight I Wanna Be Your Man" gives you just a little glimpse into the soft side of the Louisiana native. He takes a step to the Cajun side with the song penned by father-in-law Jerry Sullivan. Martina McBride makes an appearance on the stirring and thought-provoking "Practice Life." In all, it is safe to say that this is an incredibly deep album. Musically, Griggs maintains a bit of sameness -- you hear the same speed and timing repeated quite a bit. But the lyrics are timeless, moving, and in the case of such songs as "How Cool is That" just plain fun. Make sure you stay tuned for the hidden track. The unabashedly gospel cut "Someone Like Me" is the first song of brother Mason's Andy has ever recorded, and it plaintively brings to life the mission of the heart. In all, a sophomore effort Griggs can be proud of!

Andy Griggs Finds Freedom
Working the night shift at a small country gas station in Monroe, LA to pay rent, the then-aspiring musician Andy Griggs would take his guitar to work. Around 9pm, after business died down, he'd stock the beer cooler and tidy up the candy bars. Then he would pull out his guitar and play. Ironically, Griggs was fired for it. And now? Hot on the heels of his Gold debut album, You Won't Ever Be Lonely, the country artist releases his sophomore effort, Freedom (RCA), which is fast climbing its way up the Country music charts.
8/26/02 ANDY GRIGGS IS "OPENING ACT" FOR VICE PRESIDENT CHENEY AT VFW CONVENTION
NASHVILLE---Andy Griggs warmed up attendees of the 103rd Annual VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and 89th Ladies Auxiliary Conventions for a special address from Vice President Dick Cheney at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center this morning in Nashville. Griggs' performance of the National Anthem during the event's opening festivities preceded Cheney's message to those military personnel who have fought to sustain the freedom Americans enjoy. Griggs considered it a special honor to be asked to sing for the convention.
Predictably, security is extremely tight for the event, with Vice President Cheney, Nashville Mayor Bill Purcell and other special guests scheduled to attend the convention throughout the week.

Griggs On National Tour In Support Of FREEDOM
RCA Records artist Andy Griggs will release his highly anticipated second album, FREEDOM, on July 9th. The single from the new album, “Tonight I Wanna Be Your Man,” is approaching Top 10 territory on the Billboard (12*) and R&R (11*) Country Charts. The hit song also debuted the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart last week.
FREEDOM is Andy’s follow-up album to his very successful debut release, YOU WON’T EVER BE LONELY. The Louisiana native’s first album was certified Gold by the RIAA and spawned three Top 10 singles, including “I’ll Go Crazy,” “She’s More,” and “You Won’t Ever Be Lonely,” which reached #1.
“Making music is demanding,” says Andy. “You’ve got to give it 100%. You can’t give it 99%. So I’ve learned to give it 110% and every ounce of energy I have. And that’s what I hope people will hear.”
FREEDOM was produced by David Malloy (Reba McEntire, Kenny Rogers, Lila McCann). Andy co-wrote six of the songs on his new album, including the title track “Freedom,” “Practice Life” (with guest vocals by Martina McBride), “Custom Made,” “A Hundred Miles of Bad Road,” “How Cool Is That,” and “Where’s A Train.” Collaborators include Tom Keifer of the heavy-metal group Cinderella, David Lee Murphy, producer David Malloy and others.
The new album also contains “The Road To Lasting Love,” “Brand New Something Going On,” “Always,” “I’ve Learned,” and “Custom Made.” Andy’s father-in-law, Jerry Sullivan of the Grammy nominated bluegrass gospel duo Jerry & Tammy Sullivan, provided “Sweetheart of Beinja Bayou.” The collection’s concluding track “Someone Like Me,” is credited to another family member, Andy’s late brother Mason Griggs.

2/4/02 ANDY GRIGGS WOWS COUNTRY IN THE ROCKIES
T.J. Martell Fundraiser earns more than One Million Dollars
Griggs Conquers Mt. Crested Butte
Nashville, TN - From the moment he arrived in Crested Butte, CO for the 8th Annual Country In The Rockies Fundraiser, RCA Records artist Andy Griggs was fearless. He donned snow skis for the first time, fell down a lot, sang the fight song of his nemesis and helped raise more than one million dollars for the Frances Williams Preston Laboratories, a division of the T.J. Martell Foundation.
Andy’s first mission was to give Ski Boarding lessons to CMT’s Lance Smith. Though Andy himself had never “boarded” he didn’t let that detail get in the way. The debacle can be seen on the debut of CMT’s Top Twenty Countdown on Friday, February 8 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. Once Lance was totally confused, the lesson ended and Andy was ready to take on the mountain.
Andy’s first ski lesson came with a bit of advice that became his mantra for the week. It was, if you feel yourself getting out of control then you need to fall down. “Sometimes you got to lay-it-down and, man, I laid it down all over that mountain,” he said. “It was a total blast but the hardest part about it was gettin’ in and out of those ski boots. It’s like a cast once you’re inside those things,” he continued.
One of the highlights of the week is the Celebrity Bartending event in the town of Crested Butte where the artists and songwriters take song requests for donations to the TJ Martell Foundation. The Louisiana native and die-hard LSU Tiger fan swallowed his pride when he was asked to sing “Rocky Top,” the fight song for the SEC rival Tennessee Volunteers. “Yea that was a lot more painful than layin’ it down on the mountain, but we raised almost two hundred thousand dollars that night so it was worth it,” allowed Griggs.
The event ended Saturday night with a concert by the great Willie Nelson. Sunday morning it was a 6:00 a.m. shuttle to the airport for a flight to Seattle in support of his new single, “Tonight I Wanna Be Your Man,” which climbed to number 40 on the R&R chart and number 42 on the Billboard Singles chart. Look for his new album Freedom, which will be released in May.

It's a song that reminds you that life is about your family and friends - the people that take care of you." "Freedom" is due in stores in late summer or early fall...

Titans Fish For a Cure
NASHVILLE (June 13, 2001) — Tennessee Titans defensive tackle Jason Fisk and some of his teammates took on both large-mouth and small-mouth opponents on June 5 at "Fishing For A Cure" to raise funds for the T.J. Martell Foundation.
Cedar Creek Yacht Club on Middle Tennessee's Old Hickory Lake was the site of the exclusive bass fishing tournament and post-party Bass Bash that raised more than $60,000 to support research into the cures and treatment of cancer, leukemia and AIDS.

Andy Griggs greeted his fans enthusiastically as they found their table assignments at his Fan Club Party at the Café Milano on the afternoon of June 13th, 2001. As Griggs looked out over the crowd, he noticed the video cameras already taping. He informed his fans that he too would be video taping "interviews" with them as they had lunch. As the thought of being interviewed by their favorite artist sunk in, the buzz of voices increased as the spectators wondered what was in store for them...

As his mama would say it’s just a matter of "Circumstance" in the life of Andy Griggs. On this warm Wednesday afternoon Andy Griggs met with his fan club at the Café Milano in downtown Nashville and set the pace for a fun filled afternoon. Griggs set the pace for the day by playing games with his fans, having an autograph and picture taking session as well as performing an acoustic set of some his favorite country hits. This day of circumstance was by far one of Andy Griggs best...

Andy Griggs - You Won't Ever Be Lonely
RCA Records
If you only buy one country album this year, I recommend you make it this one! Andy Griggs is a fresh face on the country scene, and this debut is in a class all its own.
The album-opening "You Made Me That Way" has top ten written all over it, though I find it the weakest track on the disc, its main drawback being the "generic" sound on his vocals. From that point on, Andy breaks from the crowd with an "outlaw" sound for the future.
On cuts such as "A Side Of Me" and "Ain't Done Nothin' Wrong," there is a gritty, Travis Tritt-like feel, but without the whiskey soaked vocals. "Waitin' On Sundown" and "I Miss You The Most" are strong, narrative "story-songs" that fit Mr. Griggs' vocals to a "T." His cover of Rodney Crowell’s "Ain't Livin’ Long Like This" will make you forget all about Waylon’s version, while his duet with the aforementioned Jennings on "Shine On Me" is country magic.
With one boot in the present and one in the past, Andy Griggs covers a lot of country ground on this debut. It ranks right up there with the best of ‘em! Eleven strong cuts, any one of which could be a chart-topper. Combined with Andy’s obvious visual appeal, I think he’ll be all over your TV and radio in no time at all. Don't miss this fantastic release from a future Horizon Award winner.

Solid debut album from Andy Griggs

Another outstanding debut album. Though Griggs may look like blending of Bryan Adams and Bryan White, he has a sound all his own. This Louisiana singer has a smooth deep voice that has a nice mature tone to it. He also has some big time support. "You take a good gospel singer, add a little rock 'n' roll and a country song form a country boy, and you've got yourself a winning combination -- and besides, he's a good friend of mine," says Waylon Jennings...

Waylon and Griggs Chase Down Tour Buses

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Weary of the busload of tourists that stop in his driveway, Waylon Jennings decided to turn the tables. Jennings and fellow country singer Andy Griggs took a break from songwriting on Saturday to chase tour buses and snap photographs of fans, Griggs said. Jennings "can get kind of irritated at the tour buses that stop at the foot of his driveway," Griggs said. "The more mad he got, the more I egged him on." Armed with disposable cameras, Jennings and Griggs spent nearly two hours in Jennings' Cadillac, ambushing tour buses. Many tourists "just sat there with their mouths wide open in disbelief," Griggs said with a laugh. Afterward, the pair returned to Jennings' home and finished writing their song...
