After being discovered at the theme park Dollywood, Suzy Bogguss has become one of country music's most outstanding female vocalists. It all started in 1987 when Capitol Nashville inctroduced Suzy Bogguss to the country music scene. Her first singles, "I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire" and "Love Will Never Slip Away" might not have been hits, but it propelled the Academy of Country Music to award Suzy with the "Top New Female Vocalist" award. After the win, Suzy Bogguss started making a household name for herself. She easily became friends with guitar-pickin' buddy Chet Atkins, and he penned the liner notes for Suzy's debut album "Somewhere Between", which peaked just shy of the top 40 in the album charts. Suzy's career started with singles such as "Somewhere Between" and "I Want To Be A Cowboys Sweetheart" becoming minor radio hits. "I Want To Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart" showed off this talented singers amazing yodeling abilities, which can also be found on her "Somewhere Between" CD on the song "Night Riders Lament." Another early hit was the incredible "Cross My Broken Heart." Suzy's vocal showmanship on this song landed it in the top 15. One of the first major Suzy Bogguss hits. Suzy's next hit was a duet with singer Lee Greenwood. Written by Keith Whitley, Curly Putman, and Don Cook, "Hopelessy Yours" proved to be a radio favorite song, as it finished on Billboards chart at # 12, and earned Suzy and Lee a Grammy nomination in the category "Best Country Collaboration with Vocals." With some well known songs under her belt, it was time for Suzy to make a breakthrough album. "Aces" hit the stores in 1991, and holds some of Suzy's biggest hits. The first single "Someday Soon" also made it to # 12 on Billboard's Hot Country Singles And Tracks Airplay Chart. The next single, "Outbound Plane" reached # 9, becoming Suzy's first Top-10 hit on Billboard. The video was shot in the Tuscon Airport Graveyard. At the end of the video, you can see a captivating sunset. The album's third single, the title cut "Aces" enjoyed it's way up to the Top-10 also. Suzy was on a role. "Letting Go" was the final single off of the album, which is said to be Suzy's signature song. The # 7 smash hit deals with a mother letting go of her daughter going to college. The hits off of "Aces" lead to a Country Music Association award...the prestigious Horizon Award. On September 14, 1992, "Aces" went gold, selling more than 500,000 copies. This was a first for Suzy. The album later went on to sell more than 1,000,000 copies, certifying it as a platinum album. "Aces" went to the top 15 of the Billboard Album Chart. Following up an album with the stature of "Aces" is pretty hard, except when Suzy Bogguss does it. In 1992, Suzy released "Voices In The Wind", another hit album, making the top-35. The albums first single was the John Hiatt tune, "Drive South." The song shot all the way to # 2 on the Billboard Chart. The second single, "Heartache" topped out just under the top 20, at # 22. The accompaning video was shot in London. Though only 2 singles were released, the album went gold in October of 1993. Also in 1993, Suzy co-hosted the TNN/Music City News Awards, where she was a nominee for "Top Female Vocalist of the Year." The year's follow-up to "Voices In The Wind" was yet another gold record, the top-30 album "Something Up My Sleeve." The first single, "Hey Cinderella" is one of Suzy's biggest hits today. It landed in the top 5, won an award for CMT Europe's Top-10 Video, and the song won Suzy an ascap award as a songwriter. Talk about a career single! The Suzy Bogguss penned song "Just Like The Weather", also co-written with husband Doug Crider, was the next top 5 single. The other singles off of this album didn't make a big splash, but it's one of Suzy's best. One of the highlights is a duet with Billy Dean, the title cut. 1994 was a big year for Suzy. She released her "Greatest Hits" CD. She also participated in the album "Common Thread : Song's Of The Eagles", which won Suzy a second Country Music Association Award. That same year, she was also nominated for the CMA album award for "Tribute to the Music of Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys." Her Greatest Hits cd eventually went gold. Surprised? Well, you shouldn't be. Suzy Bogguss has a remarkable voice, and deserves all the record sell she can get. Next, came an album in 1994 with buddy Chet Atkins, entitled simply "Simpatico." In 1995, Suzy participated in the "Red Hot + Country" album. Along with Kathy Mattea, Graham Nash, and Alison Krauss, she received a second grammy nomination for "Teach Your Children." "Come Together: America Salutes the Beatles" was Suzy's next complication project. She dueted with Chet Atkins on "All My Loving." That song received a grammy nomination in 1996. In the midst of all of Suzy's work, she had a baby boy, Ben, in March of 1995. It was time for a new album. Suzy worked very hard on her album "Give Me Some Wheels." It was critticaly acclaimed. The song "Saying Goodbye To A Friend" was used on segments of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and the last episode promotion of "Home Improvement." 1998 brought more success to Suzy, as her top-45 album "Nobody Love, Nobody Gets Hurt" won rave reviews and another top-35 hit, "Somebody To Love." The album, however, did not sell commercially well. As a result, Suzy asked out of her contract with Capitol Nashville. She bounced right back though and signed with the Platinum Entertainment label. The result? The album simply titled "Suzy Bogguss", aka, a masterpiece. In 2000, Suzy's hit song "Someday Soon" was sent up on a NASA space expedition to wake up astronauts. Suzy was thrilled with the recognation. Overall, Suzy has had a career to be proud of. Hit records, best selling records, a successful marraige, a child, grammy nominations, awards, and the like. Suzy's voice will always stand out as an exellent example of female vocalism. Suzy, your fans will always support you. Keep on coming out with the great music we've come to expect! You rock! We love you.
