Curb Drops
Clark Family Suit
The Clark Family Experience (Meanwhile Back at the Ranch) ended
their court battle with Curb Records on Wednesday (Aug. 20). Curb had objected
to the six-brother group, now known as Clark, recording for another label.
In June 2002, the label filed a motion for summary judgment on the issue of
post-bankruptcy injunctive rights but dropped the motion on Wednesday. The
group had declared bankruptcy, citing financial mismanagement and unfair recording
and publishing contracts. Alan Clark, the lead singer and oldest of the Clarks,
said, "It feels great to finally move on with our careers. We started
out at a very young age in the music business. My brothers and I have grown
a little older and a great deal wiser. The best feeling is to know that now
we can concentrate on making music again." 08/21/03 (from CMT.com)
The
Clarks will soon be shopping for a new record company.
Fortunately, the Clarks contract with Curb Records has been terminated
based on some legal action initiated by the Clarks in Virginia, their home
state.
However,
Curb Records is still seeking the right to prevent the Clarks from recording
for other recording labels. On August 7, 2003, there will be a trial on this
issue in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
Assuming
that the court decides in favor of the Clarks, the Clarks will then be finally
free of Curb and will then negotiate a new record contract with another recording
label. In this event, the Clarks anticipate that they will release a new album
will all new
songs in early 2004.
The
Clarks appreciate the support from their fans and look forward to seeing many
of you this summer at one of the Clarks' concerts.
