Background:
Older brother of Keeley, he has no idea who his father is, and he was pretty sure his mother didn't have a great idea either. He was the one steady "man" in the house throughout Eileen's many romantic and not so romantic entanglements. He was also the one to take care of Keeley, keep her out of trouble as best he could. When he was 18, one of Mom's boyfriends got a little too close to Keeley, Joe protected his sister and ended up in juvenile hall for a little while.

When he was released, he wasn't shocked to find out his mom had packed up and left. He was surprised to see Keeley there, however. SHe had been living with friends until he was released, and continued to do so when he enlisted in the Marines until he got permission to bring her on base.

When she was 15, he and Keeley made the decision to send her to Xavier's to train her powers, and because maybe a military base wasn't the best place to learn. He checks in on her constantly and attended her graduation.
