I have always dreamed of time travel, the ability to manipulate the past and even the future.
I would think that you could not travel into your own future simply because every little breath, every step,
every touch or every change would then immediately change the rest of that future. Without a doubt it would be much easier to change the current time,
present, and consequently change the future. How great would it be to return to that point in your life where you were hurt, or when you could change what you
did wrong or you could stop something from causing you pain. Changing your past, that would be almost anyone’s dream.
Small problem however, how many times was I warned of what would cause me my pain, and in that, how could I with just my present knowledge be able to convince my former stubborn self. In relation, I would guess I now the future self would be forced to none other then watch helplessly as my former self fell into the trap. It was bad enough the first time from being there and doing that, how much worse would it be watching it happen from the outside as well. This is probably why time travel does not exist. Now, that I am still left with the initial pain, with no way to reverse it or take it back, what can I do about it ?
I am reminded now of a story of an Army Sergeant at boot camp. The Sergeant was briefing his men about all the things necessary to make the parachute jump from the airplane safely to the ground below. It would be the second and third time for most of them, but the first for one young new recruit. Fear grips this soldier and the Sergeant exclaims loudly “You afraid?”
The recruit tries to pull it together by acting tough and pipes out a small but recognizable “No”.
The Sergeant laughs and defines his question more by replying “NO! ARE YOU AFRAID?”
The soldier now afraid firstly because of the jump at hand and secondly because of the tight grip of the Sergeant almost stutters the reply of “Yea!”
With a half smirk and a smile the Sergeant excitingly belts “Good” “Feel the fear and jump any way!”
At first this story may seem foolish; you may not understand it at the moment. What I am trying to say is this, What if that hurt you feel is what you need to feel and identify with in order to become The Who you were created to be. What if your struggle is your identity?
Every thing you know you have learned, most everything you have learned was taught to you.
No doubt about it, you cannot change your past. So stop your sob story. As soon as you stop embracing your pain for sympathy and attention you can begin the healing process. Feel the fear and jump any way! If you have been dealt a bad hand, received the bad end of the stick, had a horrible childhood, a horrible life, been in pain….. Feel that pain, harness that pain and use it to hurt no longer. The reason we exist today is because we existed previous to today. How you exist now will effect how you exist tomorrow. You are a product of your past.
I once attempted to run from my past, taking things only from my good nature leaving behind pain and failure. I ran, I left it all behind, 10 hours of road separated me from my pain, or so I thought. I neglected to learn from my past and in precise order my history had repeated itself, my failures, my pains, and all. It’s technologically impossible to travel back in time to change my past, and it’s useless to try and run from it. However our pain is a descendent of our past, which is the manufacturer of our internal thoughts and feelings and branches out to our personal lives.
I will use an analogy to further explain my meaning. Pain is to past as hope is to future. While all the day you may fight with your pain or your past, if you do not possess hope, your future will and can never be changed.
