Origin: Jennifer Walters was the daughter of Morris Walters, sheriff of Los Angeles County, and Elaine Walters, and first cousin to Robert Bruce Banner, the atomic scientist who years earlier was transformed by gamma radiation into the Hulk. Born in Los Angeles, Jennifer frequently spent summer vacations with her mother’s relatives, the Banners, in Dayton, Ohio. Despite an age difference of 5 years, Jennifer and Bruce became as close as brother and sister, but saw less of each other when Banner left Dayton to attend college in New Mexico. Upon her graduation from high school, Walters went to law school at the University of California at Los Angeles while Bruce Banner went to medical school. Although they corresponded briefly, the two lost track of each other when Banner left medical school in his second year to study nuclear physics. After Banner began work on the military’s top secret gamma bomb, he dropped contact with all of his family for reasons of national security. Graduating from law school with high honors, Walters established a successful criminal law practice in Los Angeles.

One day, Bruce Banner visited her to reestablish contact with his childhood friend and confide in her the emotional trauma that his alter-ego, the Hulk, had caused him over the intervening years. At that time, Walters had been defending a hood named Lou Monkton whom gangster Nicholas Trask had framed for the murder of Trask’s bodyguard. While Walters drove Banner to her Los Angeles home, one of Trask’s henchmen made an attempt on her life. With his cousin rapidly losing blood from the gunshot wound, Banner improvised an emergency blood transfusion, knowing that he and his cousin shared the same blood type. As soon as it was evident that Walters would survive, Banner disappeared for fear that in the excitement he would turn into the Hulk. The effects on Walters of the transfusion of gamma radiation-mutated blood, was first manifested when Trask’s men, posing as doctors, infiltrated her hospital room. When Walters recognized them, her anger triggered her transformation into a 7-foot tall, superhumanly strong female version of the Hulk, who became known as the She-Hulk. After exacting vengeance on Trask’s organization, Walters found soon herself deriving more satisfaction from life as the She-Hulk than her career as a lawyer. Invited to join the ranks of the Avengers, Walters accepted, and reluctantly left California. Although she can change from one identity to another at will, Walters prefers to remain as the She-Hulk.

Height: 6’7” Eyes: Green
Weight: 650 lbs. Hair: Green
Skin: Green
Powers: The She-Hulk possesses vast superhuman strength derived from a body wide mutagenic change triggered by a transfusion of the gamma-irradiated blood of the Hulk. She-Hulk’s homologous ancestry to the Hulk’s enabled her body to transform without the direct exposure to the gamma radiation that affected the Hulk’s body. (Because the catalyst for her transformation was indirect, her altered form is not nearly as powerful as the Hulk’s.)

As with the Hulk, an increase in the level of epinephrine (known as adrenaline) due to stress trigger’s a chemical extra physical process that adds, in some unknown way, 540 pounds of bone, marrow, and tissue to her body. The total transformation takes from 15 seconds to as long as 3 minutes, determined by the degree of stimulation achieved by the initial surge of epinephrine. Shortly after the transformation, the amount of epinephrine declines to normal, reduced levels.

The She-Hulk can lift( press) about 50 tons. Her powerful leg muscles enable her to leap straight up to a height of 600 feet, or jump a distance of 1000 feet. Because she retains her normal intellect, the She-Hulk is incapable of the primal rages that trigger increased levels of strength and body efficiency in the hulk.

The She-Hulk’s body possesses a high degree of imperviousness to injury, pain, and disease. The She-Hulk’s skin is capable of withstanding extremes of temperature, from 3,000° Fahrenheit to –190°F, and great stresses and impacts without puncture wounds or lacerations (she can withstand direct hits by field artillery cannon shells.) The She-Hulk cannot, however, withstand the heat of the detonation of a nuclear weapon. The She-Hulk’s highly efficient physiology renders her immune to all terrestrial illnesses.
