'Now our children grow up prisoners - all their lives, radio listeners!'
REM - Radio Song

Welcome to the first issue of The Jock. It's nine years since I last typed words to that effect. The Jock began as a photocopied small press comic back in 1993 and ran for five years and twenty-seven issues (plus a couple of specials). Pretty respectable numbers for small pressers, and we're still very proud of the work we did back then (and hopefully, so are all those other guys who helped out along the way!) The Jock had a loyal following, readers who were passionate about the characters and the world in which they lived - readers who still ask, 'Hey, when's The Jock coming back?'

The problem is, we couldn't just start up again after such a long break. Nigel spent the last few years developing his style; he couldn't just pick up where he left off. (Personally, I was damned happy with his work in the first place. but take a look at the work on this site - and imagine how happy I am now!) As for me, I've learned a hell of a lot over the last few years too. Particularly when it comes to plotting. (I don't just make it all up as I go along any more!) There were some great ideas and wonderful images in the original book, but if we were going to do The Jock again, we both wanted to make it the absolute best we could.

Well, now you can make up your own mind whether we've succeeded. Here you'll find the opening chapter of a four-part story that reintroduces The Jock to the world. Old readers will recognise many familiar faces. and quite a few changes. New readers - well, I'm hoping you'll enjoy yourselves too. Please let us know, by emailing your comments to the Contact link provided. And if you have any suggestions for appropriate songs to add to the Jock's playlist, let's have them too!

It's good to be back.

'Music is a powerful - and perhaps the most powerful medium in the world. Music. Plato says, 'When the music of a society changes, the whole society will change.' Aristotle - a contemporary of Plato - says, 'When music changes, there should be laws to govern the nature and character of that music.' Lenin says, 'The best and quickest way to undermine any society. is through its music.'
