| Scouting Report |
 |
Role: Starting center. One of the
nation's most underrated low post threats. 2000-01
MagicMetric(TM) NCAA Player Rating: 16.254 (Ranked 113th
out of 3000+) Career to date: Has had a stable career.
Averaged 12.1 ppg and 5.3 rpg as a freshman, 13.7 and
5.5 as a sophomore, and 13.2 and 6.0 as a junior.
Scouting Report: Solid scorer with his back to the
basket ... Superbly patient in the post, utilizes the
pump fake to throw off his defender ... Not the most
athletic presence, but able to get off his shot with
little separation from his defender via a running hook
... Soft touch on his turnaround, practicing sound
footwork in his setup ... Aggressive finisher off feeds
... Nice set of hands ... Excellent mid-range game at
6-9 ... Sticks the jumper from the foul line or baseline
... Capable of putting the ball on the floor and taking
the lane ... Formidable pull-up shooter off the dribble
... An admirable passer, he quickly reads the double
down and hits the open man ... Solid rebounder and
shot-blocker ... Extremely foul prone, excessively uses
his hands when defending opponents ... Five high school
teammates went on to play Division I basketball.
Professional Outlook: Songalia has an excellent chance
at playing in the NBA next year. He is a likely second
round pick who will be far more polished than his rookie
counterparts. Songalia could also elect to go back to
his native Europe, where he could make a substantial
salary in a high competition league. For the record:
Scored a career-high 27 points in 25 minutes against
Virginia as a junior. Fun fact: Songalia was a member of
the bronze-winning 2000 Lithuanian Olympic basketball
squad. |
