Guide to Aggro by Legdias
Here where that idea comes from. I played a War and a rogue to 60 as y'all know so ive developped a few tricks to gain and avoid aggro depending on the situation. So here's a few tricks.

Gaining Aggro

For a warrior gaining aggro is done with taunt. Taunt makes the mob target you for a couple seconds after wich it goes back to its AI. During these few seconds, the warrior needs to do something to make sure that the mob stays on him. The best way i found to to that is with sunder armor and revenge. Sheild bash works great too, mostly on casters as it will interupt the spellcasting wich piss em off greatly. Improved sheild bash is even better as it will silence em for 2 sec (wich piss em off even more).
Sadly only warriors at this time have a way to really gain aggro. Paladins have seal of fury, wich is in my experiance a great way to keep aggro, but not very effective in stealing it. Tho i must say that my experience in that regard is limited as i never leveled a paladin more then 37th. Perhaps the paladins of the guild can had a few tips.

Holding aggro

For warriors, holding aggro comes with 2 abilities. Sunder armor and revenge. Revenge is a counter attack that one can do only after parrying/dodging/blocking an enemy attack. It does a minimal amount of damage but a good amount of aggro. With a talent, it also has a 40% chance of stuning the enemy. Sunder Armor is a skill that makes the armor the mob lower. For some reason, they really hate that more then most other abilities. For myself, i usually spam this alot, since it helps me keep aggro, and its a great debuff, rogues love it. With the talent imp sunder armor, the skill takes less rage, wich is a rare commodity so its one of the top skill in the protection tree imo.

Loosing/avoiding aggro

The best way to loose aggro is to use the abilities the mighty gods of bliz gave you. Fade is very good for Priests. Rogues get feint, wich is mildly effective, but should be spammed nonetheless. They also get vanish, wich can and should be used to clear aggro when in Dire Need. Hunters i believe get a similar ability, as feint, although the name escapes me. They also get Feign Death, wich should be used as vanish. Warlocks have no ability to clear aggro, but luckily for them, they dont aggro often. Druids and mages are more of a problem. Druids get bear form, wich doesnt clear aggro, but gives them a nice bonus to ac and hps, to make them effective tanks. Thats a boon and a curse. When in bear form, druids cant heal (wich is usually they're job) and they actually generate hate! So my advice in this case is go bear but dont attack, wait for the warrior to come and take aggro from you. Mages are another story. The best way to clear aggro for a mage is rooting the mob in place and wait for the tank to do his job. When paladins get aggro, they are expected, as plate wearers, to tank the mob they aggroed. The warrior should not waste his abilities on timers or rage when a paladin aggros.

As for warriors, well its imperative that if a member of your group or raid aggros something, u run there and steal the aggro that is rightfully yours!! Do not just stand in front of the mob you are tanking and let your cloth wearers die. Go there and taunt. Most likely the mob you are tanking will follow you around, as it is mad at you. So once u got aggro back from the cloth wearer, go back to the main mob and kill it.

Tanking multiple mobs.

Alot of time, a warrrior will have to tank 2-3 elite mobs at the same time. Thats ok. Here are a few trick on how to do that.
1st of all, all the members of the group should kill the same mob. That way, the warrior as only healers to worry about.
2nd, a damage sheild is in order. Ive found that a damage sheild is usually enuff to keep a mob aggroed on the warrior, as long as no1 is hitting him.
3rd, the warrior should change target. I can easily tank 2 mobs that way, throught all the healing.

Tanking Bosses

This is where the good warrior shines. Usually in raids, for big bosses like the Baron Rivendare and Grand crusader, a period of 20-30sec is in order for the warrior to really get aggro. Not even the priests should help. The best way to do it, is charging in, switch to defensive stance, hit last stand (wich makes my HPs 30% higher for 30s) and spam sunder armor and revenge. Once at 1/2 health, i use an healthstone or a Major Healing potion, and then the rest of the raid can jump in. For a big boss, like Onyxia or the MC bosses, a period of 2-3mins is in order. But my experience in tanking those is limited i admit.

Last and foremost, when u get aggroed and you are not main tank, you should stop all DPS, and wait for the warrior to get it back. Rogues stop all abilities, and mages should revert to wands at this point. Yes it might take a little longuer to kill the mob, but your are gonna be alive when the fight end.

Anyways, by no means i have played all the classes in the game, so maybe some of ya can relate your thoughts on how to loose aggro or gain it, in view of your class.
