When young Billy doesnt come home for dinner, his father John goes looking for him. John finds his son standing in the middle of a swamp-lake, afraid of a "monster" under the water. John is astonished to see a massive creature emerge and chase them, but they manage to escape. Soon after, the monster strikes town, but the townspeople drive it back to the swamp where it goes back under the slush. There it is revealed the creature is a space-traveller, patiently waiting for man to progress to the non-violent ways that would enable them to help him repair his spaceship.
