Personal History
Tess was born at a young age (>D) to James and Cecilia Foley, a mixed couple of mutant and human. James was a rather obvious mutant, having gold feline eyes, violet fur covering much of his body, a tail, and pointed ears. Cecilia was quite the opposite, a rather normal looking young woman with black hair, brown eyes, and an average life. However, she was very curious of Mutants in general, which drew her to James.
Tess had a relatively normal childhood, using coloured contacts and long hair to disguise her mutant appearance. She would just wrap her tail around her hips and call it an unusual belt, or wear long skirts to disguise her most unusual trait. She went to normal school with human children, and led a happy life, until one day, when she was twelve years old.
Three days after her twelfth birthday, Tess awoke to a crash in the middle of the night, quickly discovering the source of the crash to be a firebomb that had been thrown into the window. Several more were lobbed into the house, and within minutes, the entire house was up in flames. This didn't affect the flame-retardent Tess, but her parents, however, weren't so lucky. She ran to their room to attempt to save them, but found herself being whisked out by a quickly arriving firefighter (luckily, she'd been wearing a long nightgown at the time, to hide her tail). The dying screams of her parents echoed into the night. She witnessed people grumbling and rubbernecking outside, muttering about "damned mutant-lovers" and "@#%$ freaks".
Tess spent the next four years in Martin Valley Home, a home for suspected mutants in the semi-ghetto of New Jersey, an orphanidge of sorts, which, outside of the public eye, taught pubescent mutants to control their powers to a minor degree. She had been placed there by some custody wrangling from quiet members of her father's family, so as to afford the girl some hope. Most of James' family were unable to provide for her properly, so it was the best they felt they could do. Cecilia's family wanted nothing to do with it. They knew Tess was a mutant.
When Tess' power over flame finally emerged, she made a vow to herself to find out who killed her family, and avenge them, using the very element that took everything from her, to wright the wrong. To cleanse with flame.
Along with learning how to control her power, Tess also learned quite a bit about how to survive on human terms, living so close to the streets. She quickly learned the value of a handgun, a big knife, a tough front, a big mouth, and some ass-kicking prowess to back it all up.
Upon gaining the funds for the flight, and getting the information on it, Tess left for the Xavier institute, after hearing about it from one of the caretakers at Martin Valley. She is now a new student at the academy, hoping to learn more about who may have stolen her life, and how to ensure that no other children are robbed of joy by fires of hate.
