Diamonds in Time
Part One

by: Cynthia B.

Violet stepped off of the train at the Silver Hills train station. She pulled up the handle and wheeled it along the platform. She hailed a taxi, loaded her luggage into the trunk, and got in.

"I picked the right place to go for spring break," she thought. "A nice, scenic, quiet city. It's the perfect place to relax and get some work done."

Violet walked into the Nick of Time Odd Jobs shop, holding a map, looking somewhat dazed and confused. She walked up to the counter.

"Excuse me?" she said to the brown-haired woman by the counter. "Can you help me? I'm lost. Can you tell me how to get to the mall?"

"Ummmmm," the woman replied, "here. Let me show you." She took the map and drew out the way while explaining it to her. Suddenly the phone rang. The woman picked up the phone. "Nick of Time Odd Jobs. How may I help you? . . . Yes, we can. Thank you very much. Bye." She hung up the phone and turned toward Violet. "So do you understand how to get there?"

"Ummmmm, yeah. I think I can get there now. Thanks."

"No problem."

"Hmmmmmm, which mutant should I release on Silver Hills next?" Ransik said to Frax and Nadira. "Which one do you think will actually succeed in destroying the city this time?"

"Well,--"

"Perhaps I may be of some assistance," came a dark voice with a spanish accent. Ransik, Frax, and Nadira turned to see a dark man dressed in somewhat traditional spanish garb step through the door.

"Who are you?!" Ransik demanded. "How did you get in here?!"

"Allow me to introduce myself." He took off his hat. "I am El Conquistador. Pardon my rudeness, but your door was open. So I invited myself in."

"What do you want?"

"I propose . . . an alliance."

"An alliance?"

"Why would my father want an alliance with you?" Nadira asked.

"Es simple. We have a common goal--ruling the world--and similar enemies--those pesky ranger groups. I thought if we joined forces, perhaps, we may both finally be able to defeat our prospective enemies."

"But we both want to rule the world. We'd just end up fighting each other in the end."

"I'm willing to fight with you for it, as long as we rid the world of our enemies. If I defeated mine, I would eventually have to come up against yours anyways. I figure why not do it in one fowl swoop?" He paused. "Besides, whether or not you end up ruling the world depends on how willing my superiors are to grant you rule." He held out his hand. "Do we have a deal?"

Ransik hesitated. He returned El Conquistador's handshake. "We have a deal. . . for now."

Wes, Jen, Lucas, Trip, and Katie were busy tending to the garden in the park. The city had hired them quite regularly to look after the general upkeep of the park. They were carefree and having fun. Suddenly, their chrono-morphers went off.

"What is it, Circuit?" Jen asked into her chrono-morpher.

Circuit's 3-D image appeared on the chrono-morpher. "There's a mutant attacking downtown Silver Hills. You'd better get there quick."

"We're on it," Jen said. They all ran to an alley and made sure no one was looking. "Let's do it guys," Jen said. They morphed and were on their way to downtown to stop the monster.

They arrived downtown and sized up the monster. "This is weird," Wes said. "It looks like Jetara but not quite."

"It looks like he combined with something," Trip said.

"Foolish rangers," the mutant said in a seemingly double voice, "you cannot defeat me. I am more powerful than you could ever imagine."

The mutant sent some cyclobots at the rangers. The rangers quickly spread out and began fighting cyclobots while Wes took on the mutant. Wes struggled until, eventually, the mutant repelled him back. The other rangers quickly ran to him.

"Wes, are you all right?" Jen said.

"Yeah, I'm fine. He's just really strong."

"Then maybe he needs someone to equal his strength," Katie said. She lunged at the monster, but she only lasted a few minutes longer than Wes.

"I think we need a team effort," Wes said. They all ran toward the monster and took turns fighting him. They were all eventually repelled. Then the monster shot a bolt of lightning out of his hands. The rangers fell back and de-morphed.

"Ha! Victory is mine!" the mutant shouted and vanished.

The rangers, exhausted and battle worn, were lying on the ground. They were trying to get up when Jen noticed a foot kick a rock. She looked up and saw the girl who had walked into the shop asking for directions.

"Looks like you guys could use some help," she said. She took out a magenta, diamond-shaped keychain, pushed a button, and begain talking to it. "Weldor, it's Violet. As much as I'd love to catch up with you, this is strictly business. I'm here in Silver Hills where a monster that looks kind of like El Monstruo just attacked. The rangers here tried to defeat it to no avail. I think El Conquistador has joined forces again. You may want to send the rangers out here."

"Who are you?" Jen asked.
