Excaliber Press Submission Guidelines

So you're interesting in submitting something to Excaliber Press? That's great! We certainly want to hear from you. But, like all other companies, there are some guidelines we'd like you to consider.

Excaliber Press is interested in publishing the best in new comics and magazines. So we're always looking for new talent and we are very open to submissions for all of our titles and for any creator owned projects and concepts. If you're interested in submitting to either GRIMOIRE or LENG!, please go to those particular links and check out their submission guidelines.

If you would like to submit comic book work to Excaliber Press, please follow these guidelines:

WRITERS

If you are a writer who would like to write for one of Excaliber Presses comic titles, please follow these guidelines:

Submit an example of your writing. Excaliber Press uses the format of full scripts for comic book writing (as opposed to the Marvel Method) so we would like to see samples that use that format. Currently, we have a need for short stories for several of our books including FEARBOOK, ACK!, FUNNYBOOK, CRIME SCENE and THRILLING ADVENTURE PULP COMICS. These stories are 6-8 comic pages long. To see a sample of a typical comic script, please go to Sam Gafford's website at: Lordshazam's Worlds of Wonder and go into the "Comic Book Work" page for sample scripts. If you have already published comic scripts, please mention that so we can check out your work. Our policy is that the quality of the work speaks more than the experience of the writer.

If you are a writer who has a series or project idea, please submit a synopsis along with character bios, a break down of the first issue, and some sample pages. It helps if you are already teamed with an artist but we are willing to help you find an artist if you need one.

Listen, here's the truth... we want new writers. As writers, Jim Main and Sam Gafford know how difficult it is to break into the comic book industry. We welcome new voices and ideas so feel free to submit material to us as often as you like. A few business words... assigned work is done "work for hire" because it uses previously created characters. If Excaliber Press decides to publish your series or project, you will retain all copyrights and other rights to your characters and series. A contract will be negotiated so that your rights are protected. Excaliber Press is extremely creator-friendly. Our goal is to simply produce the best comics possible and, we believe, that promoting the cause of creator's rights is one of the best ways to do this.

Send your submissions in a RTF format to: excaliberpress@yahoo.com.

PENCILERS/INKERS

It's a fact of life that it's a lot easier to get a job in comics if you're an artist rather than a writer. At Excaliber Press, we're anxious to promote new and exciting artistic talent and we want to see your work.

Excaliber Press is actively looking for Pencilers and Inkers. Ideally, you should be able to do both but, if you feel that your strength lies in only one area, we still want to hear from you. Submissions should include samples of sequential art showing storytelling abilities over pin-ups. Show us how you can make even pages of talking heads exciting. Of course, we still want to see that you can rock the house with action as well!

If you'd like to work for Excaliber, please send a submission of no more than 5 pages to: excaliberpress@yahoo.com. Please send in either jpeg or tif format. If you have a website showing your artwork, even better! Simply send us a cover letter and a link to your website and we'll get back to you.

LETTERERS/COLORISTS

Excaliber Press currently has a great need for people in both these fields. Applicants should be able to letter and color on files in Adobe Photoshop. If you want to submit samples, please send them to: excaliberpress@yahoo.com or, if you have a website showing your work, just drop us an email with a link to your site and we'll check it out.

If you would rather submit your work through the mail, please send it to:

Excaliber Press

Bristol, RI 02809
Attn: Comic Editor

Here's the bottom line... we want you to work for us. Spend some time looking over our titles and decide which is best for you. Send us your submissions and proposals. Help us make better comics.

We look forward to working with you!
