An Interview With: SMOKEY RYDER

Our PlaySims reporter, Karyn Locke, is at it again with an exclusive interview! So what happened to PlaySims Kitty Smokey Ryder? Why has she suddenly disappeared from the scene? Read below for the scoop only Ms. Locke could capture!

PS: Well, Smokey, this is quite a shock! You're going to be a mommy! Congratulations!

SR: Thanks, Karyn. This is definitely a weird time in my life right now.

PS: Weird? Why do you say weird?

SR: Well, at 23, at the height of my career, I'm now pregnant. It's just something I never expected to happen.

PS: You do raise an interesting point. Here you are, 23, like you said; you're young, beautiful, wildly popular in this business, making tons of Simoleans. What happened? Is this a lesson in safety for all us out there?

SR: (chuckles) To be totally honest with you, I used protection when I conceived. Protection isn't always 100% surefire.

PS: Well said. So tell us. What HAPPENED?

SR: (breathes in) Ok...here goes...I had just done my pictoral with Nelix {Horatio} and was scheduled to go to Cancun the following month for the Mexico photo shoot. I told Maxine {Knight-Steele; owner and editor of PlaySims} that I wasn't going to go if I had gotten my womanly thing. She said she was a little upset, but would cancel the WHOLE trip if I couldn't make it! Well, this left a lot of pressure on my ovaries, but I knew I was due for my period ANY day. The night before the trip, I knew something was up. I was now three days late, and am NEVER late. I got a home pregnancy kit that night, and found out. Needless to say, Maxine still cancelled the trip for me!

PS: But wait! You finished the "Slave State" shoot AFTER the Nelix pictoral.

SR: (laughs) Yea yea yea. I was a few months pregnant when we did that shoot. They took like 20 pictures of just me alone because they wanted to hide my pregnancy as best as possible. The picture you see in the pictoral was the best, and that's definitely not my best work. After that I sort of vanished. I figured everyone would like an explanation.

PS: So you worked while pregnant? Big deal! Do you think you'll do more pregnancy shots? You know there's a big audience for it!

SR: No, I don't think I'm into it. Besides the PlaySims audience is young and "hep to the jive" as my dad would always say! I don't think they want to see an overstuffed turkey prancing around naked all the time. Maxine thought I should, but I declined. I did my last photo shoot for Maxine as a favor.

PS: So, what's in your future?

SR: Motherhood, I suppose. I'll relinquish my position as Kitten here and will move down to the Guest Model category. I want to take time off to enjoy parenting. I'll miss the business with all my heart, and like I said, will be back from time to time. Hopefully in the future I'll be back full-time. Maxine told me I'll always have a place here!

PS: And what about "Daddy?" You KNOW you're spilling the beans today!

SR: I figured as much! Nelix is the father. He's happy about it. Unfortunately, we're not in love and we're not going to have that happy-ending-Cinderella-lifestyle. We respect each other and are great friends. He will have a major part in the baby's life, but he and I will never be parents who are married or are together. He has his life, I have mine. Stuff happened, and now we'll be bonded forever. I don't mind that. Neel is a great guy. He's going to make a great dad!

at this point in the interview, nelix horatio comes into the room. apparently, smokey has a doctors appointment and he is taking her. smokey looks at her watch and gives him a look like she had no idea our interview had gone so long. i invite horatio over, and say my final words.

PS: I know you have to get going, so I won't keep you, but do you guys know what sex the baby is?

SR: Nope. I'd like a son.

NH: It doesn't really matter, though.

SRNH: (in unison) As long as it's healthy! (the two laugh)

PS: Any names picked out yet?

NH: Yep.

SR: (swatting Horatio's arm) Neel! Don't say! It's a surprise.

PS: Ok, ok! I can take a hint! Thank you so much for your time, Smokey. Thank you, Nelix for the surprise visit. Best of luck to the both of you.
