A Little History About Anam Caras

Anam Caras (Ah-nam Kär-as: Gaelic: Soul Friends) are everywhere. Most people can't see them or feel them, and what's more, they've never even heard of them. Why legends of Fairies, Leprechauns, and Pookas are well known and stories of Anam Caras are not, no one knows. To those who have heard of them, Anam Caras are often a myth, a pagan-story from an ancient land long forgotten. But to people who have seen them, they are as real as the earth and as luminous as the moon.

For centuries those who have seen Anam Caras, have had trouble to explaining them to others. Their similarity to what Christians call Guardian Angels, Greeks call a Muse, and Eskimos call an Animal-soul, leads to confusion. Anam Caras are protectors of the soul, guardians of the heart, and guides of the spirit. They come from the Land of Soul, Tír-nan-Anam, a parallel otherworld where beauty and tranquility reign and time has no power.
