Chapter One

It was 3 months ago when I first moved to Turtle Cove.  I had landed a good job teaching a music course at the University.  There was another reason why I decided to move to this boring city… to find out who my birth parents are.  I spent many sleepless nights doing research on my family tree, but only failed in the end; but that didn’t stop me.  I was too determined to stop looking.

As I sit at my desk in the classroom, my head is throbbing in pain.  I rub my temples as I’m reading the newspaper.  My students are just now coming into the room like storm-troopers.  Do they have to be so loud?  Then I reach into the desk drawer and pull out some aspirin, popping the pills into my mouth like candy.

Just then this perky student of mine Alyssa approaches me.  “Good morning, Miss Loveless.”

I look up at her.  “Morning.  How was your weekend?”

“Peaceful for a change.  Any luck on finding your parents?”

“Not yet.  But I’m not giving up.”  By now the class was settled in and waiting for me to start.  “If I need your help after all, I’ll be sure to let you know.”  I stood up.  “But right now, let’s get started with class.”  Class was almost over now, and I was wrapping things up.  Then Jason, another student, decided to take me up on a challenge he made to me last Friday.  He thought I was talking out of my ass when I told the class I used to be in a band back in my college years.  That used to be a lot of fun, just jamming away with friends and doing gigs at local bars for cash to pay for my tuition.  Though my adoptive mother offered to pay for most it, I felt a need to make ends meet on my own.

As I pulled out my JS1000BP Prestige series electric guitar; I think Jason was starting to feel like an idiot.  For some reason I felt like gloating, so I gave them a demonstration.  After I finished the class laughed at Jason for doubting me and they all swarmed out of the classroom and went on to their next class.

As I was gathering my papers and leaving myself, Alyssa’s cell phone rang as she was walking out.  I glanced at her and noticed a frantic look on her face.

 “Are you alright, Alyssa?”

As I brushed by her, then suddenly the chain around my neck broke off, and the purple orb on it rolled on the floor.

“Oh, Miss Loveless! I’m so sorry!” She went to help me retrieve it.

“No, it’s ok.” I grabbed it before she could.  I didn’t want anyone touching it, for some reason I felt it was a part of me.  She looked really confused as I tried to get it back on my chain.

Why are you looking at me like that?  I wondered.

“I have to go; something came up…please tell Mr. Franks that an emergency came up?”  She ran out the door as if she were on fire.

“Sure…I hope everything is alright.” I yelled after her.

It was time for a break, so I decided that a nice drive to the park for an early lunch was an order.  I got in my car and drove off.  My mind kept thinking about that girl Alyssa, and why she was acting funny.  Maybe I’m imagining things…Brianna; you always have a habit of exaggerating.  Suddenly the ground shook beneath my car and I came to a sudden stop.  Since when are there earthquakes here?  I tried to get out of the car and lost my balance as the ground knocked me off my feet.

What the hell is going on?

I slowly got up and looked around…in the distance I saw something that I swear no one would believe me if I told them.  A huge ugly monster was playing Godzilla as it was walking through the city destroying buildings; and then there was another giant robot that seemed to be fighting it off.

Ok, if I pinch myself, maybe I’ll wake up.  So I pinched myself, and nothing happened.  Or maybe not!  I walked a little closer to the scene. People were running around frantically trying to find some safe ground.  For some reason, I wasn’t scared.  My headache came back in full force as I watched this amazing event.  But I didn’t let that stop me.  I felt a need to be there.  But why?  I hid among the side of an older building, watching in awe.  Then I heard someone speaking not too far from me.  I looked to see two weird looking individuals mocking the fight going on.  The female cackled and heckled at something called an ‘Isis Megazord.’

It must be that big robot that’s getting the shit beat out of it.  I kept listening.

“Nothing can help them now!  Look Jindrax, our new org is actually winning this one!  Master Org will be so pleased; we’ll just have to become generals!”

Is that what you freaks are? Orgs?

My head felt like it was about to explode, then all I could do is fall to the ground in pain.

The woman looked in my direction and gasped.  The org named Jindrax cautiously inched towards me.

“Jindrax, no!  Get away from that disgusting human!  We have a more important task to finish.”  She motioned towards the battle.

“Who are you calling disgusting?”  I got to my knees and glared up at her.  “Have you looked at yourself lately?”  My headache was making me really irritated, and these two weirdos weren’t helping any.

Jindax laughed.  “Hey, that was a good one.”  The woman elbowed him hard.  “Ow! Hey!”

I rose to my feet and then something really off the wall happened.  The purple orb I had started to glow brightly.  I took it out and held it tightly.  The two orgs gasped.

“Toxica!  Look!  It’s another animal crystal!”

“Huh?”  I asked.  “What are you talking about?”

Toxica looked rather amused.  “You mean you don’t know?  You really have no idea what’s going on, do you?” She approached me with her hand stretched out.  “Give that to me, it’s too powerful for you.”  She grabbed my hand.

“You’ve got to be kidding me.  Like I’m going to hand this over to you!”

Then a powerful energy hit me at full force.  A beautiful raven swooped down from out of no where and started to attack Toxica and Jindrax.  There was an energy force surrounding my body and a sonic wave emerged from me that knocked the two orgs on their asses.  The raven seemed to disappear and as I walked towards the orgs, it reappeared by where the other fight was taking place; it actually was taking on that giant org monster all by itself.  I look back to Toxica and grabbed her by her hair, pulling her up to her feet.

“Don’t EVER touch me again, got it?”  I flung her away from me and she hit the wall hard.  I glared over to Jindrax.

“What kind of Ranger are you?  Since when are Rangers brutal like you are?”  He asked.

I raised a brow.  “Ranger?  I don’t know what that is, but I assure you, I have no part of it.”  I grabbed his arm and pulled him to his feet. “I just don’t like people bullying me around, never have…” I raised him into the air. “…and never will.”

 What is happening to me?

A group of noisily colored costumed people approached me and watched me as I was about to toss Jindrax aside like a rag-doll.

“No, wait!  Just let them go!” Yelled the one in white.

 That voice…it sounds like Alyssa!

I looked to her and just dropped Jindrax.  He and Toxica scurried to their feet and teleported away in fear.

“Miss Loveless, please.  Just stay calm.  We can help you.”  She then took off her helmet to reveal herself.

“I don’t know what’s going on here or what just happened…I’m scared and confused… just leave me alone. There’s nothing you can do for me!”  I was about to run off then my head really took me to the deep end.  Another sonic wave left my body and threw the rangers to the ground.  I collapsed to the ground now feeling weak.  I could feel two little spots on my head where the headache remained.

The one that was in silver crawled back to his feet and said, “I can’t believe it.  It’s her!”
