Boku no Angel Tomodachi (ßnņ) is an original comic made by the Lazy Kumquat. It began about three years ago as something of a game to be passed around amongst three people - one person would draw a part and pass it on to others to continue the story. There was no set storyline for us to draw, and it was always a surprise to the other two how the current comicker continued the last cliffhanger. What began as a simple story with a handful of characters eventually grew to be a massive 486 page affair (not including illustrations, parodies, side comics and the like) with over 20 characters. Around the end we actually began to plan parts of stories and the ending because this comic had become rather meaningful to us. We also thought we could get it out someday to other readers than just ourselves. We began planning a "final draft" of ßnņ even before we finished the "rough draft" to sell at Comic World LA in 2001...which got canceled for lack of attendees. A great deal more planning was done from that time to present to you now the first portion of our comic.
ßnņ was born around the time when the angel craze was all the rage in Japan and beginning to catch on in the US. Other personal interests at the time show up a lot in the comic also. Influences in art and story came from Angel Sanctuary (duh), Evangelion, Gundam Wing, Angel Beat (where we got almost all the names for the characters), Dogma and a number of other random things too many to name.
If you haven't figured it out by now, this comic involves the idea of angels. And yes, we're sure you've had it up to your neck in angels and Christian/Judaic mythology incorrectly used in too many anime/manga. We aren't saying we did extensive research and got everything correct, but rather, that we depend on our imaginations to create our own concept of angels and Heaven. So you will see odd, incomprehensible things in the comic, but we'll explain ourselves to convince you of this world that we created over years.
Lastly, ßnņ is a comedy. That means lots of things will get made fun of in the course of the story, and religion is no exception. It won't exactly be Dogma, but if you're easily offended, perhaps this isn't the comic for you. For those more tolerant of these things, we hope that you will enjoy reading the comic.
