A child prodigy, Paul Ebersol became bored with the slow pace of the education system and eventually found the only thing that challenged him was committing elaborate technologically-assisted crimes as the Fixer. He frequently teamed with the mentally powerful criminal Mentallo and the criminal spy organization HYDRA against the law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers.
Eventually he would join with Baron Zemo's Thunderbolts as Techno. When the other members mutinied, he escaped with Zemo. He returned to the Thunderbolts disguised as a technician known as Ogre, who was guarding a mutant known as Humus Sapien inside the Mount Charteris, Colorado hideaway. Ebersol incapacitated and hid Ogre in stasis. His return was revealed to be a robotic imitation possessing his memories and apparently unaware that it was not truly Ebersol.
When the Thunderbolts were taken over by the law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D., Ebersol resurfaced as a parolee forced to join once again as the Fixer.
