Betty Ross

Betty Ross is the only child of Air Force General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross and his wife Karen, who died when Betty was a teenager. Incapable of copping with a teenage daughter both emotional and professionally General Ross sent Betty to a boarding school. After graduation Betty returned to her father who was now managing a top secret Gamma Bomb project in the New Mexico dessert. There, Betty met and fell in love with Dr. Bruce Banner, of which General Ross disapproved. When Dr. Banner was exposed to intense Gamma Radiation transforming him into the monstrous Hulk, Betty became one of the few people capable of calming the savage beast.

Due to his unique situation, Dr. Banner and Betty Ross had a rough and rocky romance. Eventually Betty would marry a man her father would approve of, Air Force Major Glenn Talbot, but it ended in divorce. MODOK, then the leader of the subversive organization called AIM, took advantage of Betty Talbot's situation to use gamma radiation to transform her into the monstrous and insane Harpy, who then battled the Hulk. Betty's transformation was reversed shortly afterward, apparently permanently, after an encounter with the Bi-Beast, and she regained both her normal form and her sanity.

Betty and Dr. Banner would reunite and be separated several times in their history, until their final separation due to Betty's death due to Gamma Radiation poisoning caused by the Hulk's greatest enemy the Abomination. Betty was put into a state of preservation at an unknown military base, where she was eventually resurrected and given a new identity and purpose. It turns out her resurrection as a reality-distorting hallucination created by Nightmare, and also introduces Betty's daughter Daydream.

Recently, Betty is revealed to have been resurrected by the Leader and M.O.D.O.K., due to the urgings of their new ally, her father Thunderbolt Ross, who had previously kept her body in cryogenic stasis. She also undergoes the same process that turned her father into the Red Hulk, which grants her vast superhuman physical power. The now villainous Doc Samson also helps Leader to brainwash Betty into an extremely confused and aggressive state. In the aftermath of the Leader's attempted takeover, Betty is having a hard time to cope with being brainwashed and turned into a Red She-Hulk. During one conversation with Bruce, Betty states that they are no longer married, since she was declared legally dead and everyone else knows that Bruce had married Caiera. He tries telling her that everything will be alright, only to get her worked up and transform into Red She-Hulk.

When Doc Green began working on depowering every Gamma mutate on the Earth, he enlisted the help of Rick Jones, who had been the first Gamma-powered hero to be reverted back to normal, to depower Red She-Hulk. Rick visited Betty to inform her that the Hulk was coming for her to take her powers, and slipped the cure into her food. Doc Green appeared in Betty's house and fought her until the effects of the serum made effect. Doc Green then confronted her about the shooting of Bruce Banner, thanking her for causing his emergence, and telling her that Bruce Banner was now dead. After Doc Green left the scene, Betty realized with dismay that she made the same mistake as Bruce, she had created a monster.
