Computer Viruses:

Computer viruses are the hot topic that every computer user nowdays wants to know about.I too, had been very much interested in these things in the last few days.I grabbed a lot of information and now I am able to tell you about how to protect yourselves from computer viruses.Although there are many anti virus programs available in the market, still, I regret to say that there are some viruses that cannot be detected by ANY anti virus program.Before going any further, lets first think about what a computer virus is!

What is a computer virus?

Have you ever caught a cold?Dumb question, isn't it?Every one of us has caught a cold at least once is his life.We know, that colds and coughs are the diseases that spread from one person to another.Like, If Joe caught a cold, and you stayed with him for some time, like one or two hours, ( I am not sure how much time),it is likely that you also get the cold from him.This disease has been made possible because of the virus.A virus reproduces itself at such a degree that we can hardly imagine.Like, if a glass of water contains one virus, in a little time,that virus might replicate itself into about 10,000 viruses.Out of those 10,00 viruses,if each one replicates itself the same 10,000 times,just imagine the total number of viruses that would be produced!
So, lets get back to computer viruses.Computer viruses work the same way.Lets say, If Joe has a CD that contains a virus, and you put that CD in your computer, its most likely that your computer also gets infected with that virus.Simply put, a computer virus is a computer program, which when enters a computer, it looks around for any other computer programs, say, if you have been working on a Microsoft Word document, and a virus enters your computer, it might infect your Ms.Word document with itself.That document too, would now have become a virus.Now, without you knowing it,there would be two viruses,instead of one.Those two viruses, would now replicate themselves and infect more and more files!

How computer viruses spread?

Yeah, an important question.How does a virus replicate itself to such an extent?Well, its simple.A computer program, is actually a set of instructions written in a sequence,that tells the computer what to do.Like, if you want the computer to add 2+3 and tell you what the result is,this is how you'd do that:
Number one is :2
Number two is:3
Add Number One and Number Two together and show me what the result is on my monitor.
(Of course,no one can be soooo dumb to use a computer to find out what would be the result of the addition of 2 and 3,this can happen only in examples ;-)
Anyways,well,as the computer doesn't understand English (stupid computer ;-) ), therefore some special Computer programming Langugaes are used.So, all the common programs that you use all the time,like MsPaint, Ms.Word,Corel Draw,Internet Explorer,Netscape Navigator,etc are just some complex computer programs.There programs have been written by programers in the computer programming languages.The set of instructions, that are written in a programming language, that make up the computer program, are called CODE,so, if a virus enters a computer, and at this time,the person using the computer, is using Corel Draw, the virus would simply, place its "CODE up on the code of Corel Draw.The code of the virus contains all the information the virus writer has written,like,if a program is running , infect it in this way,do this damage to this computer, etc etc.So, the corel draw program has now been converted into a virus.Now, it would create more and more same viruses.And so, the viruses would remain spreading!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
