So you have got a computer virus.I understand what problems you'll be having.I know that you'll be having lots of problems using your computer that include slow computer speed,crashing of various software programs,loss of data,etc.But don't worry,help is at hand.In this page,I'll guide you through the step by step process for the removal of your computer virus.
Removal of computer virus
(a)Remove it using your own computer
Most computers come with an Anti Virus program installed.An anti virus program is simply a computer software that protects you against computer viruses and if you get a virus it helps remove that computer virus.The most popular anti virus programs are:
Most probably you already have one of these installed.In not,then you can visit any of the above websites and download that software.I recommend that you buy it because it gives you access to all of the functions.
But how do I know if I already have one installed?
Its simple.Open My Computer.Go to control panel and double click where it says "Add or remove programs".It will then give you a list of all of the software that's installed on your computer.Scroll down that list and keep looking at the names of the programs you have.As soon as you spot a program that says "Anti virus" or as soon as you see any of the above mentioned anti virus programs,note it down.After that,close that window,click on start,point to programs and find the anti virus program whose name you just wrote down.Then click on it to launch that program.
What's next?
After you launch your anti virus program,the next step is to scan your computer for viruses.No matter what anti virus program you use,you'll see a caption that says "Scan" or "Scans" or something like that.Just explore a bit and you'll find the one that says "Scan your computer" or "Scan my computer" or something like that.Double click on that,and a virus scanner would be launched.It would then scan your whole computer for viruses.Its gonna take some time,from 10 mins-2 hours or more.Do not interrupt the scan until its finished.After the scan is finished,you'll be given a summary of the scan that tells you how many files were scanned,how many viruses were found,how many viruses were repaired and how many viruses could not be repaired.If all of your viruses got repaired,then Congratulations,your computer is now free from all of the viruses.Just restart your computer,and it'll work like before.And make sure you scan your computer for viruses at least once a week.Also,don't forget to subscribe for our Free online computer magazine so that you can receive lots of articles just like this one in mail for free.
But all of my viruses weren't repaired!
This condition occurs often.Some viruses are real hardy ones that do not get repaired in the first attempt,for those ones,you can choose to:
1-Quarantine them
This option allows you to put these files in a special place where they can no longer be used or spread infection.You can try repairing them again after quarantining them.Most probably they'll get repaired after being quarantined.If not,then you can submit them to the headquarters of your anti virus software through email where computer scientists work on them and figure out how to repair them.Then they repair them and send the virus free copy to you.It takes about a week or 15 days' time.
2-Delete them.
This option will totally delete that virus,removing all other ways it can infect your computer.It works fine but here's one little problem.There are certain files that are essential for your computer to function.Sometimes these files also get infected by the viruses,so if you delete them,there is a chance that your computer wouldn't work.Here is one common file that gets infected by a virus,it is:
rundll32 or rundll32.exe
If this file is infected by the virus then never delete it.Just quarantine it.Because deleting it could prove real harmful.
(b)Doing it using the internet
There are certain viruses that infect directly your anti virus program.I have also got one such virus,and I remember how frantic I got when I found out that my norton anti virus itself has been infected by the virus.All of my programs would crash,and my computer became as slow as a tortoise.And I couldn't even install a new anti virus program because it would say that I already have one installed and I cannot have more than one anti virus softwares installed at a time.And when I tried uninstalling the infected Norton Anti Virus,it wouldn't work either.I felt that I'll have to buy a new computer when one day surfing the web,I ran into a page that would scan my computer online for viruses for free.I found this page on PC Cillin's website (I don't remember the spellings well anymore).Through that page,I scanned my computer for viruses online through the internet.It detected the viruses,and kicked their @$$ in no time.And I had my computer back.You can also visit that page and remove your viruses.But here's one little problem,it works in Internet Explorer only.If you use a software other than the internet explorer,then it might not work.And you'll have to get your computer repaired from a shop.Sorry about that!Anyway,You can visit this page by clicking here.Make sure you add that page to your favourities list.
What if none of these methods work for me?
I am afraid that I am unable to help you in that case.You'll have to take your computer to a computer repairing shop to get rid of the virus.
