Draft Analysis
To some, it was a slight surprise when the Dolphins spent their first pick on Tennessee linebacker Eddie Moore, adding him to a corps of LB's that is already one of the best in the league with recent acquisition Junior Seau and returning Pro Bowler Zach Thomas in command. The Dolphins' real weakness was at offensive lineman. Their O-line was one of the worst in the entire NFL last year. They addressed this problem in the next two rounds, selecting linemen Wade Smith(tackle) and Taylor Whitley(guard). These picks, given enough time, should strengthen the Dolphins' line. After drafting tight end Donald Lee in the next round, the Dolphins took Sand Diego State wide receiver J.R. Tolver. This was an interesting pick. Tolver led the NCAA in receiving yards last year, but was not taken until the fifth round. People think that this record setting WR might not have what it takes to perform in the big leagues, but that is still to come. Just look at Randy McMichael, a tight end selected by Miami in the fourth round last year, and what he has done for the team.
