AVS Designs

Augh! My eyes!

Trippy Weirdness

Welcome to the AVS designs area of the site. Here you will find presets for use with the Winamp Advanced Visualization Studio, designed by yours truly, the marvelous mr. me! (By the way, if you already know how to use it, you can skip the next few paragraphs and go right to the designs)

Don't know how to use it? Here goes. Make sure Winamp is the active window, now either press Ctrl+P and select 'visualization' to the right, or right click on the visualization (the little wavy line or the vertical bars) and select 'select plug-in'. Once there, highlight Advanced Visualization Studio, and either right click to start right away or select close and then doubleclick on the visualization. Complicated? Yes. To recap, I think the easiest method is:

Ctrl+P --> Visualization --> Advanced Visualization Studio --> Close --> Double click visualization

How do you use it? Right click on the little window that pops up and select a preset that they've given you! That's it! However, if you really really want to have fun left click (or double click, depending on version) on the little window, and you can make your own presets! Sweet.

That's not all, you can download new presets from either Winamp.com or other sites, including my very own. What you do, is right click the thumbnail, then select 'save as...'. Now as a route, save to this folder: (drive):\(winamp folder)\plugin\avs\cubeSquared\. Now when you right click on the AVS screen, there should be a folder saying cubeSquared. Kicky.

My hands are starting to tire from typing, I just needed to put all that so I'm not flooded with requests as to how to do this thing. On with the show.

Main Components: text, interleave, blur, scatter

Text based is my bag, baby. My second attempt at creating a Lain based AVS. This one came out a lot better, but became more and more crowded as time went on. I really really love the effect I got with the blur/scatter/interleave combo. If you haven't seen any Lain yet (and why not???) this is all going to go over your heads. It's a representation of one of the Layer screens. I wasn't sure how to make the text jump around, so I decided to make it like the Copland mail program text. The Lite mix is actually a lot better framerate wise (duh), but seems a bit barren. Oh well. Oh yeah, in 0D in Hex is the number 14.

Main Components: text, interleave, blur, scatter

Same as above, except for the lack of the LAiN and To Be continued text, which makes it a lot less cluttered and confused.

Title: Gears of Time When did the gears of time begin to turn?

Main Components: text, fadeout

My second text based AVS design. It's a pretty simple design, and shows that cool things can be done with text using very little work. Not great by my current standards, though. But it was cool at the time, and I still like it.

Title: Binary ERROReMix What is the Matrix?

Main Components: text, onBeat clear, blur, interleave, buffer save

My first real text intensive AVS. I was really really proud of this one when I made it, I had just started. Newer versions of WinampAVS may make it run too fast for the full effect, but oh well, it's still there. Looking back, it was such a huge fluke to make something so insanely cool with so little experience. Actually, most of my really good AVS' tend to be big flukes. Cool.

Title: Theme of cubeSquared Perfectmix Lite Still dark and blurry

Created: 1507 2001

Main Components: simple, ring, text, blur, fadeout

Same as above, but slightly faster and smoother, and easier to see. I just took out the Interleave

Title: Theme of cubeSquared Laggy Atari Mix Objects in the thumbnail may be cooler than they appear

Created: 1507 2001

Posted: 1807 2001

Main Components: simple, ring, text, interleave blur, fadeout

The thumbnail here does no justice (mainly because it's the same one as above because I'm very lazy) to the pure trippiness that is this mix. I changed the render mode to XOR, and it just got really really weird. I'm pretty sure drugs weren't involved, but it was close. Reminds me of playing old Atari games with vector graphics, particularly Tempest. Anyone remember Tempest? Anyone?

Title: Theme of cubeSquared Pixelbomb Pixelboom

Created: 1507 2001

Main Components: simple, ring, text, mosaic, water, interleave, blur, fadeout

What made the Theme of Chronomog, to me (and probably most other people) was that cool mosaic pixel effect. I tried to recreate it here (it was an accident the first time) with limited success, but it is here, nonetheless. It's tiny, feel free to download with little or no risk.

Title: Copland Project, v1 "Hello Navi" "Hello Lain"

Created: 1707 2001

Posted: 1807 2001

Main Components: text, moving particle, water

I totally admit this one is very very very much on the sucky side. There's a very good reason for that, I'm lazy. With enough time and effort, I could make this pretty good, but right now I'm stuck as to how I could make this more interesting. I am somewhat proud that I was able to recreate the Copland Enterprises OS logo using nothing but text.

Title: Theme of ChronoMog v.2 ~ Beyond Reality

Created: 1611 2000

Posted: 2005 2001

Main Components: text, interleave, mosaic, fadeout/blur

This is definitely one of my absolute favourites in terms of AVS'. I seriously don't think I could ever bring myself to do any better than this one. It also happens to be the last one I ever made. And for those of you that haven't tried, I'd just like to note that scrolling text is a pain in the arse. Don't try it at home, kids. For those of you that don't know, ChronoMog was my old nick.

Title: Yin vs. Yan ~ Eternal Struggle

Created: 2003 2000

Posted: 2005 2001

Main Components: moving particle, on-beat clear, blur, roto blitter, buffer save

Whee spinny!  The thumbnail looks like crap, but mainly because this one doesn't work well without the actual movement part. Just download it, it's barely a few kb.

Title: Fighting Suns Round TWO Mix

Created: 1505 2000

Posted: 2005 2001

Main Components: moving particle, water, fyrewurx

A 'remixed' version of something my good friend LuRKeR sent me. It's phenomenally simple, as the original idea was made within the first week we found out about this thing, but I think that the final effect came out pretty well.

Title: PGGB Dancefloor

Created: 2408 2000

Posted: 2005 2001

Main Components: moving particle, ring, roto blitter, blitter feedback, 'sunburster' movement

I guess this is the only tribute I have for one of the greatest authors of all time. I am of course, talking about Douglas Adams who very recently passed away. The PGGB stands for Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster. If you don't know what that is, please please please go out and buy, rent, kill, steal, maim, but somehow obtain a copy of the Hitchhiker's Trilogy.

Title: Particle Races ~ Place your Bets

Created: 0605 2000

Posted: 2005 2001

Main Components: moving particle, on-beat clear, blur, fadeout, 'shift rotate left'

This one's pretty cool, the particles make their way across the screen, and every so often a flash goes off, denoting a 'photo finish'. Wait a second, that's not so cool. Hmm. Just download it, it's like half a kb, literally.
