Sorry for its lateness. I have maintained a high fever since Monday.
The way I usually write an essay is to first form an idea of what I am writing about. To get my thoughts together, I go to a library or searching online to get a broad idea of what my essay will be about. I take a couples pages of notes and I try and figure out which points are easiest for me to get behind and prove. I then try and form my thesis statement for the entire essay. Once I get that done, I take the main thesis statement and I try to break it down into between 3 to 7 main points. I then outline my ideas and continue to break them down as small as I can.
Usually after I create the outline, I will write my first draft of an essay. The whole first draft takes about 45 minutes to an hour, as I write only the things that come immediately to my mind. Once I do that, I print it out, revise it, and come up with a better copy. I let someone read it, let me know if some parts are unclear or confusing, and then I rewrite my outline with notes along the sides to make sure my to clarify certain points that I may have messed up in the rough drafts. With my final outline, I carefully re-write the essay, reading each paragraph as I'm done writing it, to make sure that it makes sense and flows with the rest of the paragraphs.
