[MODSS News, June 7, 2004] Taking advantage of the rash of "Geneva Accord Meetups" sweeping the United States, one state activists in Colorado found a willing audience for their perspective.
The June 7 Geneva Accord Meetup included Movement for One Democratic Secular State member Aref Nammari on the panel. Also attending were other members of the Movement, John Sigler and Khadija Qadri. Once the original panelists gave their opinions on the Geneva Accords and the floor was open to questions, the one-state/two-state debate quickly took over, leaving the "Geneva Accords" off to the wayside.
American audiences, recalling our own experiences with Jim Crow in the Deep South and the story of South Africa are very receptive to one state opinions. The idea of any sort of ethnocentric/racist state is a hard sell in the United States, be that an "Aryan State" or a "Jewish State".
By the end of the evening a good portion of the crowd, at least half, were coming up and asking us questions about the one state position and taking some simple flyers we created for the occassion. Many people were openly saying that they support the one state perspective and asking where they could learn more about the idea.
