We are planning the 2005 "Spring Campaign" in order to aggresively promote the one-state agenda in various fora around the world. The idea of a "month of action" as opposed to a specific day is meant to provide a degree of leeway since most MODSS members represent professional people who may have prior obligations on any given day. However there is a question as to which month would be most acceptable.
March has been suggested because most colleges and universities are in session. In that the majority of MODSS members are directly involved in institutions of higher learning as either students or academics, arranging our schedule to match that of the academic year is probably a good idea. However, March is not noted for a great deal of Israeli or Palestinian activism in that most of the major dates of significance come in May, which means there are less Israel/Palestine related events underway for us to exploit in our advocacy. If March is chosen, we'll draw of a calendar of significant events in the history of the conflict for this month which may be useful to advocates.
April is more or less a compromise between March and May. There are some significant events that are commemorated, such as the Dier Yassin Massacre, however the academic world is in the process of winding down. If April is chosen, we will compose a calendar of significant dates in the history of the conflict for use by advocates.
May is one of the busiest months of the year for Israeli and Palestinian activism. May sees the Zionists openly celebrating Israeli Independence Day and Israeli Memorial Day. At the same time, Palestinians and their supporters commemorate Al Nakba Day. On all sides there are many Israel/Palestine related events underway providing MODSS advocates plenty of venues to promote the one-state message. However, May also tends to represent the end of the academic year, with both students and faculty focused on final examinations and then disappearing for holiday afterwards. This means that most MODSS members involved with institutions of higher learning are likely to be too involved elsewhere to give the "Spring Campaign" the degree of enthusiasm it deserves.
