The generous tail flap keeps wind rain and snow from blowing up into and underneath of the back part of the blanket when the horses turn their butt towards the wind in bad weather. The back of the blanket is also nicely darted for a contoured fit. The extended neck keeps wind rain and snow from blowing into the front of the blanket. The neck is also darted for a tailored fit. The coat that "Dusty" is modeling has the heavy weight insulation which is 569 grams or 20 oz. Our blankets are insulated all the way down to the bottom seam!
