____ Welcome to the Camp Hill Computer Science Department's (CHCSD) web page. This page has been designed to provide information on each of the courses offered within the computer science department. These courses are Computer Science I, Computer Science II, and for those who wish to move even further, opportunities with an independent study program in which the student sets their curriculum and learns at their own pace.

Computer Science not only helps to give students a better understanding of the technology they use every day, but it also helps to give students a head start into one of the worlds fastest growing industries. Computer Science is becoming more and more important every day, and these courses help to give a better handle on the basic concepts, which enables the students to become faster learners.

____

____ Programming Basics
Computer Science I

Computer Science I is our course that offers a multitude of basic concepts of several languages. Students begin learning C++, then progress to HTML and finally JavaScript. This provides the foundation for a solid knowledge of computer science.

____
Computer Science II

Computer Science II is our AP computer science course that will help students to build on their already accomplished knowledge of computer science theory basics. In this class, students will learn the Java language, and also learn to further apply the concepts and theories learned in Computer Science I.

Independent Study

The independent study plan is an option for all students, who are generally self directed learners. It provides students an opportunity to learn materials not taught in the classroom, and gives them a chance to apply their already learned skills. Also, if a student cannot fit the regularly scheduled computer science course into their daily schedule, the independent study course offers them a chance to still learn the material, but at their own pace.

Because of the nature of the course, there is no set curriculum. Students set the parameters of their studies, and hold a loose schedule of what they learn. Instead of generally learning chapter after chapter from a book, the independent study option gives students an opportunity to work on one large scale project instead, incorporating many other aspects of their study.
