1/23/05
Recent Call:2005-011-At 1544hrs., Engine Companies 10 and 41 (Mt. Pleasant Twp.) were dispatched for a chimney fire at 3928 Millers Run Road in the Gilmore area of Cecil. Engine 10-1 responded with a crew of 6 including Chief 10-1 Paul Pivac, Lt. 10-2 Dave Derrico, F.F. Brad Catto, F.F. Jeremy Kalka, F.F. Ed Galicic, and F.F. Chad Catto. Brush 10 also responded with a crew of 2 including Chief 10 Dennis Berty and F.F. Randy Ammell. Chief 10 assumed command once on scene. Once on scene, Lt. Derrico and F.F. Catto accessed the roof and investigated the chimney. A few spots of fire were found and the chimney kit was utilized to extinguish the fire. After dropping two bags of chimney powder, it was decided to let the fire burn itself out which it did. The fire was extinguished and all units cleared the scene. Engine 41-1 and Engine 41-2 responded from Station 41. All units cleared the scene at 1706hrs. Captain 10 Brian Berty, F.F. Jim Chabalie, and F.F. Nick Shinsky stood-by on station during the call.

Recent Call:2005-010-Engine Company 10 was dispatched to stand-by at the Fort Cherry Ambulance Base for the Fort Cherry Fire District (McDonald, Midway, Mt. Pleasant). Stations 41 (Mt. Pleasant), 12 (McDonald), 13 (Midway), and 35 (Avella) were on the scene of a structure fire in Mt. Pleasant Twp. Station 12 requested Station 10 to stand by for the district which means that if any incident occurs within the Fort Cherry Fire District other than a medical emergency, our apparatus that is on stand-by will respond. Engine 10-1 responded to the stand-by with a crew of 6 including Chief 10 Dennis Berty, F.F. Jeremy Kalka, F.F. Dan Dantry, F.F. Randy Ammell, F.F. Brad Catto, and F.F. Nick Talarico. Those who stood-by at our station include Lt. 10-1 Jim Eckels, F.F. Ed Povirk, F.F. Nick Shinsky, F.F. Jim Chabalie, and F.F. Chad Catto. Once all units cleared the structure fire all Company 10 personel were released from stand-by.

Recent Call:2005-009-at around 0100hrs on January 19, 2005, Engine Company to was dispatched to Southbridge EMS-Medic 2800 base located at 22 Cecil Elementary Drive for an odor of Natural Gas in the area. Engine 10-1 responded to the scene to check for the source of the odor. No hazard was found and all Company 10 equiptment returned to service. Among those responding include Chief 10 Dennis Berty, Captain 10 Brian Berty, Lt. 10-2 Dave Derrico, F.F. Dan Dantry, F.F. Brad Catto, F.F. Nick Talarico, F.F. Ed Galicic, F.F. Nick Shinsky, and F.F. Chad Catto.

Recent Call:2005-008-Engine Companies 10 and 12 (McDonald) were dispatched to a vehicle accident with entrapment on in the 200 block of State Route 980. Station 12 responded Rescue 12, Medic 12, Engine 12, and Command 12 to the scene. Engine 10-1 responded with a crew of 6 including Chief 10-1 Paul Pivac, F.F. Ed Povirk, F.F. Dave Derrico, F.F. Randy Ammell, F.F. Brad Catto, and F.F. Josh Pivac. Brush 10 then responded with a crew of 3 including Lt. 10-1 Jim Eckels, F.F. Jim Chabalie, and F.F. Nick Talarico. Engine 10-1 arrived on scene and requested Brush 10 do traffic control. Brush 10 turned vehicles away from the scene at the intersection of State Route 980 and Highland Drive while firefighters from Station 12 extricated the patient from the vehicle. Chief 10 Dennis Berty, Captain 10 Brian Berty, F.F. Mike Utchel, F.F. Nick Shinsky, and F.F. Chad Catto stood by on station. All Company 10 and 12 equiptment cleared the scene at 1406hrs.

Recent Call:2005-007-Engine Company 10 was distpatched at 0803hrs. by the request of Chief 12-2 (McDonald) to stand-by at the Fort Cherry Ambulance base on Noblestown Road in McDonald for the Fort Cherry Fire District. The stand-by was due to Stations 13 (Midway), 12 (McDonald), and 41 (Mt. Pleasant) being out on a chimney fire on Valleyview Road in Robinson Twp. Engine 10-1 responded with a crew and was released from stand-by at 0920hrs.

Recent Call:2005-006-Engine Company 10 was dispatched at 1429hrs. to 3697 Millers Run Road in the Venice area of Cecil for a flooded basement. Brush 10 responded with a crew of 3 including F.F. Dave Derrico, F.F. Brad Catto, and F.F. Dan Dantry. Chief 10 Dennis Berty, F.F. Rich Baine, F.F. Nick Shinsky, and F.F. Jim Chabalie responded in personal vehicles. The water was pumped from the residence and at 1610hrs., all Company 10 equiptment cleared the scene and returned to service.

Recent Call:2005-005-Engine Company 10 was requested at 2043hrs. by Station 12 (McDonald) to assist with a flooded appartment building at 122 East Lincoln Avenue in McDonald. Upon arrival, Brush 12 had 2-3 pumps set up pumping the 7-10 inches of water from the bottom floor of the structure. Brush 10 responded non-emergency with a crew of 5 including F.F. Randy Ammell, F.F. Brad Catto, F.F. Dave Derrico, F.F. Dan Dantry, and F.F. Jim Chabalie while F.F. Mike Utchel responded in his personal vehicle. Chief 12-1 and Lt. 12-1 had command and requested Brush 10 to set up a pump. After having problems getting our first pump (Bubba) to prime, we attempted to get our second pump (Bertha) to prime. After about 2 hours of attempts, Command 12 released Brush 10. At the time we cleared the scene, Chief 10-1 called via cell phone and requested Brush 10 to report immediately back to the station due to the newly remodeled downstairs hall beginning to flood as it did in September. Brush 10 responded back and immediately set up a sub-pump and (Berta) to pump the water out before it got much worse. Many members of the department remained at the station until aroud 0330hrs. to make sure the water level remained low. Members responding include Chief 10 Denny Berty, Chief 10-1 Paul Pivac, Captain 10 Brian Berty, F.F. Josh Pivac, F.F. Jeremy Kalka, F.F. Randy Ammell, F.F. Dan Dantry, F.F. Brad Catto, F.F. Mike Utchel, F.F. Rich Baine, F.F. Dave Derrico, F.F. Ed Galicic, F.F. Nick Shinsky, F.F. Jim Chabalie, and F.F. Chad Catto all assisted in the efforts in McDonald and/or at the station.

Recent Call:2005-004-Engine Companies 10 and 12 (McDonald) were dispatched at 1834hrs. to 1144 Reissing Road for a flooded basement. Brush 10 responded with a crew5 including F.F. Randy Ammell, F.F. Dan Dantry, F.F. Brad Catto, F.F. Rich Baine, and F.F. Dave Derrico. Brush 12 from McDonald also responded. Chief 10 Dennis Berty, Chief 10-1 Paul Pivac, Captain 10 Brian Berty, F.F. Mike Utchel, F.F. Ed Galicic, and F.F. Jim Chabalie stood-by on station until Brush 10 returned at 2048hrs. to proceed to Incident Number 2005-005.

Recent Call:2005-003-Engine Company 10 was dispatched at 1326hrs. mutual aid along with Companies 12 (McDonald), 13 (Midway), and 41 (Mt. Pleasant) to a reported structure fire at 187 South McDonald Street in McDonald. Command 12 arrived on scene and requested all additional units stand-by in station and released all responding companies at 1345hrs. F.F. Randy Ammell, F.F. Dan Dantry, F.F. Brad Catto, F.F. Mike Utchel, and F.F. Nick Shinsky responded.

Recent Call:2005-002-Engine Company 10 was dispatched at 1903 hrs. to assist Company 29 (Muse) and RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) 12 (McDonald) to a kitchen fire at 24 Birch Way in Muse. Chief 29 put the fire under control and canceled RIT 12 and Station 10 before any trucks left the station. Chief 101 Paul Pivac, Lt. 10-2 D.J. Johnson, F.F. Josh Pivac, F.F. Randy Ammell, F.F. Rich Parenti, F.F. Brad Catto, F.F. Derek Pivac, F.F. Phil Boggio, F.F. Nick Shinsky, F.F. Jim Chabalie, and F.F. Chad Catto answered the alarm. Total Company 10 Man-power:12

Recent Call:2005-001-At 0848 hrs., Engine Companies 10 and 12 (McDonald) were dispatched to a report of wires down and arcing in the area of 43 Gladden Road in the Gladden Heights area of Cecil Twp. Engine 10-1 responded with a crew of 5 including Lt. 10-1 Jim Eckels, F.F. Dave Derrico, F.F. Brad Catto, F.F. Jeremy Kalka, and F.F. Ed Galicic. Upon Engine 10-1's arrival Engine 12 already arrived on scene and found a downed power line and notified Allegheny Power. Engine 12 was released and Engine 10-1 remained on scene awaiting the arrival of Allegheny Power. F.F. Dan Dantry stood-by on-station during the incident. Total Company 10 Man-power:6

Happy New Year from the members of the Cecil Twp. Volunteer Fire Company No. 3. The total number of fire calls for Station 10 in 2004 was 153. Hopefully in 2005, everyone will stay safe and we will not have as many calls as we did this year! Once again Happy New Year and stay safe!

Recent Call:2004-153-Engine Companies 10 and 29 (Muse) were dispatched to a chimney fire at 60 Belgium Hill Road in Cecil. Engine 101 responded with a crew of 5 including Chief 101 Paul Pivac, F.F. Jim Faure, F.F. Brad Catto, F.F. Randy Ammell, and F.F. Dan Dantry and Engine 103 responded with a crew of 4 including Captain 10 Brian Berty, Lt. 10-1 Jim Eckels, Lt. 10-2 D.J. Johnson, and F.F. Derek Pivac while Chief 10 Dennis Berty, Fire Police Captain Rich Parenti, F.F. Dave Derrico, and F.F. Rich Baine responded to the scene in their personal vehicles. Truck 29 from Muse also responded. Upon arrival, F.F. Catto and F.F. Dantry accessed the roof by using a ground ladder and knocked the fire down by using a chimney kit. F.F. Ammell, Chief 29 Scott Sedora, and Chief 291 Ron Zombeck removed the debris that fell to the fireplace from the residence.The residence sustained minimal damage and all company 10 and 29 equiptment cleared the scene without further incident.

Recent Call:2004-152-Engine Company 10 was dispatched along with Medic 2816 to 3743 Millers Run Road for an 86 year old female not breathing. Brush 10 responded with a crew of 5 including Chief 10-1 Paul Pivac, F.F. Randy Ammell, F.F. Brad Catto, F.F. Chad Catto, and F.F. Nick Shinsky. Upon the arrival of Cecil Police unit 2830, the female was found to be breathing. Medic 2816 transported the patient to Washington Hospital and Brush 10 returned to service. Chief 10 Dennis Berty and Lt. 10-2 D.J. Johnson stood by at the station.

12/7/04
Recent Call:2004-151-Engine Companies 10 and 12 (McDonald) were dispatched for a vehicle accident with injuries and entrapment on Millers Run Road (SR 50) near the municipal building. First arriving units reported female entraped in the vehicle and unconscious. Brush 10 arrived on scene and requested Station 29 (Muse) to be placed on stand-by while Rescue 12 responed with hydraulic tools to free the victim. Engine 10-1 shut the road down at State Route 50 and Cowden Road. Shortly thereafter, Station 29 was requsted to the scene to set up a landing zone at the nearby Cecil Municipal Park for LifeFlight 5. Engine 291 and Command 29 set the landing zone up at the park and also assisted with traffic control. Patient was extricated and airlifted to Allegheny General Hospital by LifeFlight 5. Company 10 remained on scene while the vehicles were removed from the roadway and then cleared the scene. Chief 10-1 Paul Pivac, L t. 10-2 D.J. Johnson, F.F. Randy Ammell, F.F. Brad Catto, F.F. Dave Derrico responded to the call while F.F Jim Chabalie, F.F. Nick Shinsky, and F.F. Nick Talarico stood by on station.

Recent Call:2004-150-Engine Company 10 was dispatched as mutual aid along with Stations 41, 12, and 13 for a possible structure fire at 161 Southview Road in Mt. Pleasant Twp. The caller was reporting a smell of smoke in the residence which was found to be burnt food. Before any equiptment went en-route, company 41 canceled all responding units.

Recent Call:2004-149-Engine Company 10 was dispatched to assist the Cecil Police at the scene of an accident near the intersection of Muse-Bishop Road and Millers Run Road (SR50). Engine 10-1 responded to assist in removing debris from the roadway. Chief 10 Dennis Berty, Chief 10-1 Paul Pivac, Captain 10 Brian Berty, F.F. Ed Povirk, F.F. Dave Derrico, F.F. Brad Catto, and F.F. Nick Shinsky responded to the call.

Recent Call:2004-148-Engine Company 10 was dispatched to a report of wires down accross the road from 602 Muse-Bishop Road. Brush 10 responded with a crew of 3 including Chief 101, Paul Pivac, F.F. Randy Ammell, and F.F. Brad Catto. Upon arrival Chief 101 requested that Allegheny Power be notified to respond to repair the downed line which fell as a result of high winds in the area on Wednesday. Brush 10 remained on scene awaiting the arrival of Allegheny Power and also provided traffic control assistance to Cecil Police unit 2830. F.F. Dave Derrico and F.F. Jim Chabalie stood-by on station during the call.

Recent Call:2004-147-Engine Company 10 was dispatched to Winkles Pit Stop, 3252 Millers Run Road for a possible vehicle fire. Engine 10-1 responded with a crew of 3 including Lt. 101 Jim Eckels, F.F. Dave Derrico, and F.F. Jim Chabalie. Cecil police unit 2832 arrived on-scene and reported the fire to be out and for Engine 10-1 to proceed in with caution. Engine 10-1 proceded to the scene and verified the fire was out and all Company 10 units cleared the scene.

Recent Call: 2004-146-Engine Company 10 was dispatched for a vehicle fire at the intersection of State Route 50 and Cecil-Henderson Road. Engine 10-1 responded with a crew of two including F.F. Brad Catto and F.F. Ed Galicic. Chief 10, Dennis Berty, also responded to the scene in his personal vehicle. Upon arrival, Engine 10-1 found the fire to be out and all company 10 equiptment returned to service.
