Man arrested after police chase
     A Lincoln County Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a 1987 Ford Tempo on Southeast Swan in Siletz on the evening of Sept. 30, but the driver fled east onto Logsden Road at a high rate of speed.
     The vehicle continued onto Moonshine Park Road, past the county park and into the Siletz River gorge, when the driver lost control and the car slid into a ditch near milepost 6.
     The driver of the vehicle was Thomas A. Christensen, 42, of Logsden. He was determined to be intoxicated, and was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, attempted elude of a police officer, reckless driving, and reckless endangering. The latter was because he had a passenger in his vehicle.
     The passenger, Donald E. Hooks, 40, a transient, was cited for Possession of Less than an Ounce of Marijuana.
     Christensen was transported to the Lincoln County Jail. His blood-alcohol content was measured at .11.

McCookite Hurt in Motorcyle Mishap
     Richard Modrell, 21, of 309 East Seventh Street, was reported in satisfactory condition today at St. Catherine's Hospital after he received serious cuts on his face and right arm in a motorcycle accident Sunday morning.
     Modrell had stopped at the stop sign on the north side of East B street, in the 200 block, witnesses told the police.
     He then turned east on B street, at the entrance to the D & S Market parking lot when the cycle went out of control, throwing Modrell against the window of the Market, police said.
     Police said Modrell landed about 20 feet from where he struck the window. The motorcycle traveled an additional 20 feet before coming to a halt.
     The City - County rescue unit took Modrell to the hospital.
     The motorcycle, owned by Mervyn Monson, Grand Island, had damage to the front and to the controls, police said. Modrell was not wearing a helmet, police said.
