Accident pins woman's legs between car, door
A Trenton woman escaped major injuries Moday afternoon after a car backed out of a parking stall and pushed the car door shut on her legs.
McCook police said a car driven by Richard R. Modrell, 66, of Trenton was stopped in the traffic lane in front of the McCook Clinic, near W. Seventh and D at 2:25 p.m. He was stopped to let his wife, Violet D. Modrell, 67, get out of the car to go into the clinic.
As Mrs. Modrell was getting out, another car backed out of a parking stall by Katherine M. McCartney, 88, of 906 W. First, Apt. D, struck the passenger side door and pushed it shut on Mrs. Modrell's legs.
The McCook Ambulance and rescue squad responded and had to use the jaws of life to open the door. They first attempted to relieve the pressure with crow bars.
After being freed, Mrs. Modrell was taken into the McCook Clinic suffering from bruised legs. At 3:11 p.m. she was admitted at Community Hospital for observation.
