Major Katsuragi Misato stands before the committee. They say that she is there to replace Shinji, as Shinji cannot yet be allowed to be interviewed. They ask her questions that she cannot answer concerning the angels attempts. She asks a question, but is dismissed. Then, after Misato leaves, Gendo arrives and they discuss the situation. At the same time, Toji goes to visit his sister in the hospital. Later we see Gendo and Rei in NERV talking. Then we go to the school to see that neither Kensuke nor Rei have showed up to class today. Kensuke is at the dock with his father waiting to see some boat or something. This week the class report is supposed to be done by Toji and Rei, but since Rei is not in class, Toji has to take it to her. Switch to and Explosion. Back in HQ, The alarm sounds, and the report comes in that the second branch has vanished. There was no explosion, but it just disappeared. It seems they were testing the S2 unit recovered from the fourth angel and they were swallowed by a sea of durac just like unit 01. The USA has also decided that they no longer wish to produce Evas (2nd branch was in Nevada) and so they send unit 03 to Japan to be under command of Misato and NERV HQ. In a different part of HQ they are testing the dummy plug, but some things are still not working right. Gendo says that that’s ok, and just to install the Evas with them. Back at the school its lunch time, and due to studying and such Shinji had no time to make his and Asuka's lunch, so Asuka is yelling at Shinji, and Toji comments that the newly weds are fighting. Back in HQ, Ritsuko informs Misato that the Marduke has found the fourth child. Misato asks for a report and Ritsuko says that it is coming. Misato is surprised by who the fourth is. She says that she must tell Shinji. Later, back at the school, which has ended, Toji is talking to Hikari, who tells him that he need to take the report to Rei's place. He comments that he can't go alone, which get Hikari's hopes up, but then he calls Shinji over to go with him. Shinji and Toji arrive at Rei's place, and Shinji just starts to go in. Toji is against just going into a girl’s place, but follows. Toji comments on how messy it is and drops the reports on her bed. Shinji starts to clean up Rei’s room, but Toji tries to stop him. He says cleaning is "Not manly". Shinji Tells Toji that Misato hates that type of guy, but Toji says it’s against his values, so he sits while Shinji cleans up. Toji says that Shinji has changed since he got here, and he likes Shinji better because of it. Rei arrives and the guys don't bother to move, but keep at it. Shinji tells her that they just picked up a little, and she blushes deeply and thanks them. They leave and walk home. Later Rei is sitting on her bed thinking about how she has never thanked anyone before, not even "him" (Gendo). Break. "4th Child" Break. Gendo and Fuyutski are in the train going down to HQ talking. They talk about cities being a human creation and about Seele. Later in the NERV break room (TM) Kaji is hitting on Maya, who doesn't really like it, saying that she has to get to work. Misato arrives which gives Maya time to escape. Misato wants to know the truth about the Marduke since it seems to nicely setup as they find the 4th as unit 03 arrives. Kaji tells her that there is no Marduke and that the commanders of NERV (Gendo and Fuyutski) are just pulling the strings. Misato leaves as Shinji arrives, and Kaji ask Shinji if he can buy him anything. Shinji reminds him that he’s a guy. Kaji and Shinji hang out on a bench and Kaji decides to show Shinji something. The are outside in NERV HQ where we can see the Pyramid and Kaji shows off his "melons". He says that growing melons brings him pleasure, and Shinji asks if it also brings pain. Kaji counters by asking Shinji if he hates pain. The phone rings and they tell him that Shinji has a sync test. Shinji's sync goes down. The next day at school at lunchtime Toji is getting ready to eat when he is called to the office. He wanders what he did this time, but when he arrives, Ritsuko is there. Kensuke and Shinji are talking about the next EVA. Kensuke really wants to pilot it, but Shinji can provide him with no information, in fact Kensuke already know more about it. Kensuke tells Shinji about the 2nd branch disappearing and the new unit 03. Class again and Toji arrives late, but his sensei knows about it. Later, after class Hikari walks in on Toji sitting eating when he should be cleaning for the day. He tells her that he hasn't eaten yet and he'll get right on it afterwards. She asks him if he always get his food from the school store. He nods and says between everyone he knows being busy and visiting his sister all the time, he also has no time to make his own food. She tells his she makes a mean lunch and wouldn’t mind bringing him something if he likes, and he says that that would be great. Later in HQ Asuka goes to visit Kaji, who is busy so tells her to go away. She persists and sees the sync tests. There are four of them, and then she sees the name of the fourth, and she is outraged. The plane with unit 03 takes off from America. Hikari in her kitchen unaware decides what she is going to make for her, her sisters and Toji tomorrow. Then, we see Toji at the school playing basketball all depressed like. He shoots, he scores. ~End.
Right. This episode is one of those info based mood setting ones, which means no mechas, which is ok. We learn a little about everyone here, mostly Toji. We see how dense he is, how much he cares about his sister, and how he doesn't like to clean. Ohh, for those of you who are as dense as Toji, he is the fourth child. We are told that he did it so that they would move his sister into the NERV hospital. We also see how Hikari feels about Toji, which I enjoy for some reason. It just doesn't see like the perfect match. Toji also seems a little more downcast in this episode in the end. For some reason how this episode ends is the one I remember it is so nicely done. The cut is perfect. Also we learn a little about Rei and how no one ever does anything for her. She says that that is the first time she has ever thanked anyone, and it was Shinji. Shinji seems to be bating a ten today as Toji tells him how he changed, Rei thanks him, Asuka yells at his, but not too much, and he even has a good conversation with Kensuke and Kaji. What’s upsetting from the Asuka point of view is that Shinji sees more Kaji time than she does. The episode overall is good, the ending is just the best. Well, that’s all for me.
