We start off seeing Asuka getting ready to take a shower. Then in the kitchen Shinji is cooking breakfast for the family and Asuka comes out of the bathroom screaming about the water being too hot. Shinji says he's sorry and then they get into an argument about Shinji always taking blame. Break. "Sickness unto death and..." Break. Misato and Ritsuko are waiting for the harmonics tests to get over talking about Misato being tired. The results come in and Misato informs Shinji that he is number one. Later in the locker room Asuka is totally pissed at Shinji and talking to Rei about how he beat them. Rei could care less, but I'm not sure how, so she leaves. Asuka punches the locker. Shinji, meanwhile, is riding home on the bus doing his hand thing. Then we see the City Street with and Alpha Romero and a shadow appears under it. Then in the sky a large globe appears and the alarms go off in HQ. Misato arrives and the pattern is orange, and no one knows exactly what to do. The Evas are stealthy moving through the city when Asuka recommends that Shinji be the leader. Shinji goes off saying that combat is a man's job after all, and that he will show Asuka how it ought to be done. The Evas get into position and Asuka gets stuck and has to switch her power cord. Shinji is doing his hand thingy again and get impatient. He whips around the building and fires his gun at the sphere in the air. It disappears and the shadow is right below unit 01 and the Eva gets sucked in the shadow. Asuka and Rei try to save him, but it's too late and Asuka ends up climbing a building. Rei is concerned for Shinji's safety, but they have to withdrawal. Ritsuko talks about the attempts to rescue unit 01. They began by reeling in the power cable, but the other side was missing. Shinji will have 16 hours of life support at most. The angel grew to a good size then stopped. Asuka, Rei and Misato are standing around listening to the report. Asuka mocks Shinji about getting an A on a test but being worthless in real life. Rei gets piss and gets in Asuka's face asking her if she only pilots Eva for the praise of others. Asuka and Rei go at it and start yelling at each other, but Misato intervenes saying that she will have to punish Shinji when he comes back. Break. "Splitting of the Breast" Break. We see Shinji sitting in unit 01, which is totally dark. He turns on the Eva seeing only white noise outside. He has already been in the Eva for 12 hours now and his life will end in 4 to 5 hours. He’s hungry. The pilots are briefed about how the thing in the sky is just an illusion and the real angel is the shadow. Back inside the Eva Shinji again wakes up to see that the LCL is degrading and it smells like blood. He starts going nuts pounding on the latch and calling out for his friends. Then, back outside Ritsuko talks about the plan to drop all the N2 mine on one spot while the two remaining Evas create an AT field barrier. Misato slaps her saying that she doesn't care for Shinji's life. The next sequence is Shinji talking to himself about himself and his situation. Right now It goes really really fast, and I plan to cover it later as it is a big part of the general plot and things that have been and still are discussed by Eva fans everywhere. To take it one piece at a time is impossible, but to get the big picture is the key! You get to wait hahaha. After that, back outside Asuka and Rei are in position and waiting for the bombs to drop. All of the sudden the ground cracks and shatters and the globe in the sky starts shaking. Eva 01 rips through the skin of the angle surrounded by gallons and gallons of Blood, while everyone watches. It totally rips out and lands on the ground while blood rains from the sky. Asuka is stunned. Later Misato is opening the entry plug crying over Shinji's body who is still alive and Asuka points out the she was supposed to punish him. Later Ritsuko and Gendo are watching the Eva getting cleaned when Ritsuko asks him if the Evas are really on their side. Shinji is in the hospital when he wakes up. He is greeted by Rei who tells him to rest and then leaves, Asuka is outside hiding, which makes Shinji laugh. The door shuts and he sniffs his arm. It still smells like blood. ~End
Wow. This is great, well unless you are my boss and faint at the sight of blood, then its not so great, or you just don't get to see the end, whatever. OK now, on with the show. The episode starts off strong with the harmonics test then the battle is totally awesome. I love how the Evas sneak through the buildings undetected. Think of how hard it is to hide a building tall robot. Anyway, Shinji does his little hand thing that confuses me and then he talks a lot of shit to Asuka. This might be my opinion, but what is this rant space for anyway? Think that this episode is the beginning of the end for Asuka. First Shinji beats her in the harmonics test. She was best and that how she defined herself amongst the pilots. She got pissed and put Shinji in the lead position hoping that something would happen to him, and it did. She was happy that he was gone as it put her back at number one. This really shows us what drives Asuka and why she doesn't like Shinji. Its not that she hates him its that he is her enemy. She cares more about being number one than having a friend. She would do anything ANYTHING to be the best as it defines her, which is also a big part of the end, which I will talk about more later. Anyway, back to Shinji. He's dying, and then all the sudden he's alright. No wait, from the beginning. He is really the opposite of Asuka. He cares nothing about being a pilot; he just wants to be accepted. He gets thrust into a position for the lead and he gets a little ooc, well kinda except this is the real deal so it just isn't normal for Shinji to be this way towards Asuka. I really have no clue what the hand thing is except I've heard it has something to do with the sync. He gets really nuts and riles up Asuka. Usually he's the recessive, but then he moves to dominate. Ok, enough with that. This mecha wise is one of the cooler ones. The Eva at the end breaking out of the Angel, BLOOD EVERYWHERE! It's fantastic! Ohh, and we can't forget the Bitch fight between Rei and Asuka. Asuka make fun off Shinji, and Rei don't like her mouth and then all hell breaks loose. Come on Rei, kick her ass! I'm not a real big real fan, but if she would have slapped Asuka or boxed her down, I would have cheered. This episode is one of the best. We learn so much about everyone's position to Shinji. To recap. Misato loves Shinji as a mother loves a son, Asuka likes him, but not more than being the top Eva pilot, Rei cares about him, but only defends him when most needed, Gendo still uses him, Ritsuko just goes with Gendo, and Fuyutski is madly in love with him. ^_^" PEACE!
