Holmes Old Pictures and Nostalgia
Here is the information I have on my line of the Holmes family. If you have any additions or corrections, please let me know.
John W. HOLMES was born on December 27, 1818, in Maysville, Kentucky. He died on May 7, 1894 in Mayfield, Graves County, Kentucky. He married Lucinda VAWTER in January 1, 1843 in Todd County, Kentucky.
Lucinda was born on July 28, 1817 in Todd County, Kentucky and died on November 28, 1884.
John W. and Lucinda owned 250 acres in Graves County, Kentucky. He grew wheat, corn and tobacco. They had the following children:
Jeptha Burnley, born on June 8, 1844 in Todd County, Kentucky and he died on September 4, 1844,
Henry Clay, born on September 9, 1845, in Todd County, Kentucky, and died on July 16, 1908. He married Nancy Isabel JONES on November 14, 1869.
John Elliott, born on December 10, 1847 in Todd County, Kentucky and died on April 8, 1923. He married Mary PITMAN on October 31, 1869.
Nancy Katherine, born on November 10, 1849 and died on January 17, 1897. She married William McKindree MITCHELL on February 18, 1866.
Presley Dudley, born on December 26, 1852. He married Josephine S. FREEMAN on November 19, 1873.
F.M.(daughter) born in June 1854 and died July 1854,
Lucinda Caroline, born on February 29, 1856 in Graves County, Kentucky. She married James Thomas AMOS on December 30, 1872, and
George W. born on July 7, 1861 and died June 9, 1893.
Henry Clay HOLMES was born on September 9, 1845 in Todd County, Kentucky. He died on July 16, 1908 in Graves County, Kentucky and is buried in the Bradley Cemetery near Pryorsburg, Kentucky. He first married Mary BRANN on October 21, 1866. He married second Nancy Isabel JONES on November 14, 1869. Nancy was born in Weakley County, Tennessee on December 25, 1849. Her father was Presley JONES. Nancy died on January 26, 1926 in Graves County, Kentucky and is buried in the Bradley Cemetery, near Pryorsburg, Kentucky.
They had the following children:
Mary Lillius, born on September 10, 1870. She married William Lee OLIVER on January 1, 1888. She died on April 17, 1947.
Martha Francis, born on May 15, 1872 and died of sunstroke on April 30, 1874,
John Presley, born on February 25, 1875. He married first Fornia Henson, second Clara ?. John Presley died on July 3, 1956.
Iva Eliza, born on April 11, 1877. She married Wayland ADAMS on December 29, 1900. Iva died in June 1952. Both are buried in the Wingo Cemetery.
Lucinda Catherine, born on March 30, 1879 and died on September 25, 1898,
Henry Cornelius, born July 6, 1881 and died in 1969. He married Tassie Bell MOORE on May 24, 1903. Tassie was born on May 24, 1885 and died on May 30, 1943.
Williams Elvis, born on July 24, 1883 in Wingo, Graves County, Kentucky and died on October 30, 1973 in Wayne County, Michigan. He married Mary Knox PETTY in the year of 1904.
Nellie Isabel, born on February 5, 1886 and died on December 27, 1975. She married Jacob Alexander PETTY.
Charles Howard, born on February 16, 1888. He married Beullah ?.
