My Review/
Preview: With
deservedly rave reviews from just about everyone,
it's time to 'get thee to an awards ceremony!'Or
10 or 20! Poor Wil Shakespeare (Joseph Fiennes)
has writer's block. He is under pressure to
produce a play for a theater that has trouble
staying afloat. When his plays are performed, he
is never satisfied with the outcome. His newest
play, "Romeo and Ethel the Pirate's
Daughter" lacks inspiration. Viola De
Lesseps (Gywneth Paltrow) is a very wealthy
noblewoman who longs for the chance to act.
"I would stay asleep my whole life if I
could dream myself into the company of
players," Viola states. Her enthusiasm is so
encouraging that Wil is able to pick up some
speed with his play. It is a fantasy of how
Shakespeare could have been inspired to write one
of the most celebrated plays of all time. Shakespeare
is a masterpiece written by Tom Stoppard (Rosencrantz
and Guildenstern are Dead) and Marc Norman.
It is the great romance we've all been waiting
for gently woven with quick wit and wonderful
comedy. I was never fond of "Romeo and
Juliet", but when I saw Shakespeare in
Love, I was presented with such an original
view of the life of Shakespeare and of the play
itself.
With an entrancing script, a marvelous cast, and
costumes beyond words, the film epitomizes
Shakespeare's message. |
