Preschool
Preschool children learn through primarily through their senses with aid of their curiosity. Sheetwork is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for a preschool child. Once a child is four or five years old, it is more appropriate to expect them to learn through sheetwork. I like to take advantage of children's curiosity and supply them with the tools to investigate their world using hands-on activities.
Hands on activities include Math, Science, Language, Sensory and Art. I have a variety of manipulatives for cognitive (thinking) skills and to help develop fine motor skills. The preschool curriculum aids in development of fine and gross motor, hand-eye coordination, physical growth, pre-reading, and pre-math skills. Field trips often reinforce the topics for that month's curriculum. I encourage self-help skills and building positive self-esteem. Every six months I conduct a child profile to determine what your child knows and doesn't so that I may personalize the preschool curriculum to include your child's needs. Once the child profile has been utilized, I will ask the parents to attend a parent teacher conference to inform you of your child's progress.
