US Air Force Academy Closed to Visitors
By

As of the deadline for TAW articles, April 25th, NO VISITORS were being allowed onto the US Air Force Academy. Only Department of Defense (DoD) identification (ID) cardholders were being allowed access to the Academy, with proper DoD ID. Thus, the seasonal
volksmarch trail on Academy grounds is not accessible by non-DoD ID personnel. An alternate trail is available, which leaves from the
volksmarch registration point (Loaf”N Jug) and meanders through an up-scale neighborhood on the hillside overlooking the Academy. The instructions for this alternate trail are available in the volksmarch box.
DoD ID cardholders only!! The Academy volksmarch route was, as of the publication deadline, open to DoD ID personnel. However, should security requirements change and the Security Police deny you access to Academy grounds, please graciously accept their decision and complete the alternate trail.
The terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, have changed our lives forever. This is just another example. Should National Threat Levels change and the US Air Force Academy reopen to visitors, I will put a notice in the 2003 AVA Convention Daily Communiqué newspaper.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter!
Happy Trails,
Curt Converse
