A Pool owner information page! We
will
cover all of the ways i know to get out
staining.
With over twenty years of pool plastering! I
have seen Many things effect pool plaster.
Lack of brushing is a good way for dirt and
leaves or just plain algies to form and
attack your finish! For easy to get out rust
stains or other surface staining. you will
need a 5-6 foot piece of pvc. pipe. A
stainless brush and muratic acid.
(WARNING)
Do not try this on (plain marcite)
may
harm
finish! Use on exposed quartz or pebble
finishes. Hold pvc. pipe in water with end of
pipe just above the stain. Pour about a
quarter gallon of muratic acid into pipe.
Wait 25-30 seconds for acid to flow through
pipe. Acid is heavier than water and will
come out of pipe on stained area. When you
see this happen. Slowly remove pipe. And
brush right away with your stainless steal
brush on the stain. Try 2-3 times if stain
doesint come out the first time. A minor and
stain thats not real old stain should come
out. Dont forget to balance your water. This
is not used on dye mixed plasters!
Now..plumis stones work great also. For
roughness or minor stains try diving in and
hitting the stain with a plumis stone. Found
at most pool stores. They should also carry
pool stain treatments. BUT! dont go crazy
with Chem's. to take out staining. You may
have to pump down the pool and try a mild
acid wash. It all depends on what type of
staining.
(WARNING)
depending
on your local,
ground water maybe a big problem!
Make
sure
you contact a Lic. pool contractor before you
try to pump down your pool.
Graying is another problem that can
really cause an eye sore! We in the plaster
and concrete world call this moisture
intrapment. Caused by an uneven curing of the
pool plaster or cement. What i have found to
be a great help in cutting down this problem.
We plaster 500-600 pools yearly. Our rate of
pools that gray is 9-12 pools a year.
Compared to 20 three years ago. Your pool
concrete shell acts like a sponge if you
will. In our state of florida the water table
is very high in areas. Causing pool
shells to absorb water from under the pool
shell. Plastering over a wet shell with an
uneven suction rate can cause pools to turn
black! in some cases. We have reaserched our
records and found that pools that are not
what i call water holes. That dry evenly wont
gray in most cases.
Get
the contractor to
have the pool dry.
Before it gets
the
the
pool finish or pool plaster installed. Its a
great help! Even though we plaster in
Florida. If the (temp) is under 56* we wont
plaster! Cool winds and temps only mean more
excelarater. A great way for checking
(small cracking) to occure at night when the
pool is filling or need be left until the
next day.
