Times were unstable then and eventually the leader of ISM disbanded the guild but Karl kept mingling with the orcs. One such orc held a "slave" named Brittany. Karl normally doesn't show, and often hides, his emotions, but this girl reached into his heart. He freed her from her slavery and she invited him to join the "Cabaal", a group of dark drows under Thorn Bloodmore. Thorn didn't trust Karl so he introduced him to a woman named Shadow, and she tried to turn Karl into an undead "bite by bite". One day she found need of his magical powers for a great spell. They made a deal, his powers for his freedom. He swears even to this day he can still hear her voice in his head.

Filled with hate, he swore to destroy every undead creature on this world. He killed many of them, but this didn't help fill the emptiness in his soul.

It was sometime later, in his restlessness, that he met a cat woman. Her name was Peaches, at her side was one of his old warrior friends Marbok. Karl decided to enter her service as her personal guard, and taught her the ways of survival. His loyalty was already to her when he learned that she was a vampire. Though evil was part of her being, her heart and actions were not, so he allowed her to turn him and make him one of her own kind. Thus Karl the vampire lives on.
